Enfield Community Building
Present: Mimi Mehaffey, Joe Dawson, Beth McGee, Becky Sims, Dan Walker, Jon Yates, Mike Carpenter
Beth McGee called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Changes/additions for CP Enfield
Beth McGee made changes in the document as they were suggested.
Agriculture
Vision statement the wording of “traditional” should be changed. There was discussion on the economics of family farms and commercial farms. What is the difference between large and
small farms? Family farms may 1 or 2 generations with 2-3 people working the farm. Commercial farming operations employer based on 30- 40 people
A breakout box explain the “traditional” as well value-added farming should be added.
Remember to keep the “love rural way of life” in the CP with the Agricultural section showing support.
Goal 4: Action 1 keep in. There was discussion on soil restoration.
Land Use
Added a paragraph referencing agriculture.
Goal 6 – add Action 5 maintaining the ban on gas drilling activities.
There was discussion on “building”. It was decided that Goal 1 and 2 cover aspects of “building”.
Can centralized planning happen? It is good for the town when people own their own homes.
Environment and Natural Resources
Goal 1 and 2 were changed.
Goal 2: Action 5, 6, 7 were added regarding youth, increase education of house waste and recycling and increase education of outreach energy conservation. Youth employment training,
skilled training, technical skills discussion on how the town could conduct a program for youth.
Community Council
Add recommend a parent representative from each of the school districts in Enfield. Community Council does not seem to cover all of the residents only the Enfield and Ithaca students.
Community Awareness - Social advertisements such as “Facebook” could be used to advertise the Community Council. A community center is needed in the town.
Conservation – Resource maintained and used; Preservation – limiting use.
Goal 2 – Education outreach
Goal 3 – preservation and conservation. Action 9 added.
Goal 4 – metal recycling
A statement of waste water and solid waste was added.
Action 4 – establishes agreement with providers – Haefele
Housing – last paragraph was changed to encourage affordable and ownership of housing opportunities.
Beth McGee will put CP in dropbox for review by committee participants.
Next meeting:
Continued reviewing changes
Committee members should look at Hector CP and suggestion any changes to Enfield CP in line with the Hector CP.
Next Meeting: July 25 – 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
