Sometime when you're feeling important
Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified in the room
Sometime when you feel that your going
.Jould leave an unfillable hole
Just follow this simple instruction
And see how it humbles your soul.
Take a bucket and fill it with water
Put your hand in it up to the wrist
Pull it out; and the hole that's remaining
is a measure of how you'll be missed.
You may splash all you please when you enter
You can stir up water galore
But stop and you'll find in a minute
That it looks quite the same as before.
The i -coral of this quaint example
Is do just the B.:ST that you can
Be proud of yourself, but remember
There's no indispensable man.

Je would like to report that
we had the honor of being present
when Brother Fred D. Rumsey was
presented with a 70 year certifi-
cate for membership in the Grange.
Also present were six members of
the State Grange including mussel
Curtis, our State i•iaster and rtorris
Halladay, our State Secretary,
hazel Updike was presented
with her 50 year pia alt`_iou3h she
has accumulated more years than
that. But it was very heartwarming
to see father and daughter re-
ceive recognition together.
State rlaster Curtis stated
that this 70 year certificate
represented one of the greatest
honors in Grange work. Brother
Rumsey was praised for his contin-
uous and faithful service to the
Grange and was recognized as an
inspiration to all.
Brother Rumsey, who has spoken
in every County in N.Y.S. and many
(2)
times on short notice, needs no
notes but speaks from memory. At
his home on the night of his
award, he recited a „other's Dar
poem that he had heard many years
ago. And a beautiful poem it
was.
The members of your Grange
wish to extend congratulations
on your 70 years of service and
to say that we are proud that
you are one of us.
de received a letter from
eLrs. r,orris Halladay this week
along with some newsletters from
other Granges'. A couple of
interesting items in airs. Aall-
aday's letter are as follows:
"To date in New York State
we have issued 20, 70 year Cert-
ificates. Brother kumsey's was
the 20th one. The first two
were issued to Alan and Lucy
Osborne of iit. Pleasant Grange
#349, Oswego County, hiay 3rd,
1963. In Tompkins County, there
have only been two others issued:
one to Almira manning of Forest
City Grange #288, now deceased
and rirs. Pearl Luce of cast
Lansing Grange 4792."
"You might be interested
to know that as near as we can
tell there have only been 7 Nat-
ional Certificates issued in
New York State for 75 years of
Grange service. One of these
was issued to nrs. Celia Halsey
of Forest City Grange 4288 on
6/23/66. The records on these
were not kept to well before
,Lorris started in as State Sect.
so this is accurate as well as
we could find out."
Thank you so much for your
time and trouble to look this
up for us ,sirs, iialladay. I know
it will be of interest to many
of our readers.
Thank yout Thank gout
Doris Specht and Lee Carpenter
wish to thank all of you who
helped to make our Rummage and
Bake Sale a success, rie were
overwhelmed by the response we
received.
The response we refer to
included such items as stoves,
settees, flower pots, suit cases,
a mangle, irons, deep fryers,
lamps, and lamp shades, toys,
records, books, and a sink, plus
the usual clothing, shoes, hand
bags, dishes and hats. Being
rather new at this, you can
imagine our surprise. In fact
we have such a nice assortment
re:..aining that we plan to do
this all over again this fall.
'Thank you to those who
donated baked goods and money.
A special thank you to the girls
who worked from Wednesday thru
Saturday on this. And our dear
men who picked up the donations.
We feel it necessary to
express all this appreciation
because the more that $150.00
that was added to our treasury
gave us a rewarding feeling.
A big round of applause
for our celebrity of the year,
our own Doris Specht won first
prize for her cookies at Pamona
this month.
On Saturday, Play 27th, we
will have a dish to pass supper
at our Grange Hall. Please
remember that this is open to
the public. Supper starts at
6:30 and cards start at 8:00 p.m.
The same rules apply for this one
as have for all the rest. Bring
a dish to pass and table service.
Rolls if you wish. Beverage will
be furnished. Coffee and cake
after the card games also.

As always, you are welcome
to both but if you are not able
to be there for both, come to
the one that is convenient for
YOU. Incidently, we already have
an order for two bowls of chili.
It will be ready when you get
there.
Our may 9th meeting was held
at Rog and Bev Brown's with 20
people in attendance (including
guests.) eirs, and Virs. Russell
Luce were present and spoke with
us. Although we had originally
planned to have our Junior Grange
in full swing by now, it appears
that we won't get underway until
September.
Arrangements are being made
to set up a special program for
the presentation of the 50 and
60 year pins and the 25 year
certificate, we hope to have a
State Official present for this
occasion. Advance notice will
be sent on this.
Mr. Luce spoke highly of our
i•faster, George Stark and noted
that our Grange had rated high
for receiving new members this
year.
And that brings us to the
list of people to add to our mem-
bership role. Have to apologize
for not having these people
listed as to whether they are new,
demits or reinstatements but as
