Author unknown Copied from Ononda.,a Granger Je would like to report that we had the honor of being present when Brother Fred D. Rumsey was presented with a 70 year certifi- cate for membership in the Grange. Also present were six members of the State Grange including mussel Curtis, our State i•iaster and rtorris Halladay, our State Secretary, hazel Updike was presented with her 50 year pia alt`_iou3h she has accumulated more years than that. But it was very heartwarming to see father and daughter re- ceive recognition together. State rlaster Curtis stated that this 70 year certificate represented one of the greatest honors in Grange work. Brother Rumsey was praised for his contin- uous and faithful service to the Grange and was recognized as an inspiration to all. Brother Rumsey, who has spoken in every County in N.Y.S. and many (2) times on short notice, needs no notes but speaks from memory. At his home on the night of his award, he recited a „other's Dar poem that he had heard many years ago. And a beautiful poem it was. The members of your Grange wish to extend congratulations on your 70 years of service and to say that we are proud that you are one of us. de received a letter from eLrs. r,orris Halladay this week along with some newsletters from other Granges'. A couple of interesting items in airs. Aall- aday's letter are as follows: "To date in New York State we have issued 20, 70 year Cert- ificates. Brother kumsey's was the 20th one. The first two were issued to Alan and Lucy Osborne of iit. Pleasant Grange #349, Oswego County, hiay 3rd, 1963. In Tompkins County, there have only been two others issued: one to Almira manning of Forest City Grange #288, now deceased and rirs. Pearl Luce of cast Lansing Grange 4792." "You might be interested to know that as near as we can tell there have only been 7 Nat- ional Certificates issued in New York State for 75 years of Grange service. One of these was issued to nrs. Celia Halsey of Forest City Grange 4288 on 6/23/66. The records on these were not kept to well before ,Lorris started in as State Sect. so this is accurate as well as we could find out."
