I am returning your check as I do not accept payment for
what little research I find time to do. The Town does have a
cemetery maintenance fund that you might desire to contribute to?
This past Friday I did visit the Tompkins County Court House
and looked in the Index to Surrogate records from 1818-1910,.
There were only two Queal names. Jonathan Queal died November
23rd 1874. Sarah Queal died May 29th 1893 ( enclosed a copy of
document found ).
There was an Aaron Bennett. He was about 75 years of age and
was a resident of the Town of Danby at the time of his death on
or about the 8th day of May 1858. Abbie Isabelle Bennett a
granddaughter and Anna Bennett ( administratix ) were listed.
Enclosed a sheet showing the political evolution of the
Town of Enfield. Hope it helps?
It is my understanding that the DeWitt Historical Society has
or is contrcting with a new researcher for genealogical request.
Locally Janet K. Fisher of 329 South Buck Hill Rd. Trumansburg,
N.Y. 14886-9759 may agree to aid you. I am not aware of her fees.
I thank you for the information that you sent and as time may
become available look futher in the matter.
Sincerely,

Dear Clyde:
Joseph S. 73aIjUs

September ,16, 1993
Thanks so much for answering my inquiry to you regarding the Queal
family and for the pictures you sent to me. I am enclosing a check for
$20.00 to help pay for the pictures you sent and for appreciation of the
time you have spent. It was exciting for me to receive the pictures from
the Rolfe Cemetery.
I am still hopeful of clearing up what seem to be some discrepancies
in the material I have, but possibly they are accurate. To begin with, I am
enclosing several pages from a published booklet on the Quayle Family
Records. On page 3, mention is made of Michael Queal, who eventually
settled in Enfield. By the way, my name is simply written on page 19 of
the booklet as I was born after it was published. The booklet says Enfield
Township. I am satisfied that Michael and his wife, Jane Wallace, lived in
your area and as you have shown, were buried in the Rolfe Cemetery. I may
be able to obtain a copy of the total Quayle booklet if you are interested.
I'm enclosing this time a copy of the material my late sister
obtained regarding Michael Queal's children. It is here that I am confused.
Her records say that their ninth child, Henry Mitchell Queal (my ancestor)
was born 28 Sep 1802 in Enfield, Chemung County, New York. When looking
at my sister's records for Henry, it says he was born in Enfield, Tompkins
County. I know that county lines changed through the years and perhaps
that is the case here.
What is particularly confusing to me is that my sister's records
show that Adelia Queal (my ancestor) was born 8 Sep 1829 in Tompkins,
Tioga County, Pennsylvania. It also mentions that her older sister, Jane,
was born 9 June 1827 in Jackson, Tioga County, Pennsylvania while her
older brother, Reuben, was born 13 October 1825 "near Ithaca." Granted
that the family could have moved from New York to Pennsylvania, but it
seems strange that Tioga County, this time in Pennsylvania, would be
where they settled and in a place called Tompkins. I can see that Tioga
County and Tompkins County could easily be confused, particularly with a
Tioga County in both New York and Pennsylvania. Are there any records
available that could verify the birthplace of Adelia Queal?
I'm also enclosing some of my sister's notes regarding the family of
Eliza Bennett, wife of Henry Mitchell Queal. Her parents were Aaron
Bennett and Jemima Rolfe and I am interested in tracing that family as
well.
Again, if you are interested in doing more research, I am happy to
pay you for your services. If not, perhaps you can refer a name to me. It's
always exciting to pick up another bit of information in this huge family
puzzle, and your help is most appreciated.
Sincerely,
