The Alonzo Rumsey and his son, Elmer made brooms in Enfield. They were listed in the 1914 Agricultural Directory as broom makers.

The Rumsey’s raised their own broom corn and some people say they bought the broom corn to make their brooms.
1922 the barn house burned stopping all production of broom making. They say the brooms might have been made in the Rumsey Homestead located in the Butternut Creek Road area.
Alonzo was born in 1836, he died December 31, 1921 at his home in Enfield Falls. Alonzo’s wife Eliza C. Farmer was born in 1846 and died April 13, 1921. Elmer was born in 1871 and
died December 23, 1934. All three are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Newfield, NY.
