Program attendance has, been steady; currently Beth has teeri helpers whicq, hare worked very well Master Gardener Grant:_ Michelle Nolan teacher with the Extended Day Program-has received a grant from friends of-the Library for the purchase of a Master Gardener" Curriculum which includes beautiful workbooks and leader materials. This project will begin on Tuesday(3114/06)as'a component of the Extended pa Program. Michelle-gave Carol Givin'the`check for`$280 and will write a thank you note to.-the Tn'6nds" Michelle:notes that some of the youth who start the project now will very likely be participantsin::6-sommer project which right now will take place at the camp. Michelle also noted that the Extended Day funding is a`proposed cut-in the ICsD budget. "his would eliminate funds for Enfold, Caroline and BJM. She is ercoureging families who participate to let the school board members 'know how valuable #hey think the progti is and" why. Currently there are 45'children participating and transportation:is provided. This program ends in late April: Fire Department Projects— Ray Hubbard - He typically offers fire safety workshops to children from pre- K through elementary school Each child receives a family information packet and encouraged to share their new knowledge- Stop, Drop and Roll. He also does Halloween safety and hands out candy at the Department on Halloween night. There is an opportunity for teens to join a Jr. Firefighters, program —currently there is such a program (unadvertised)there is only one member. Having the Fire Department participate in local activities/programs would be positive for everyone. He suggests that a request that identifies dates, times and activity be sent to the board attention Denny Hubble. The DeRartment has been invited to attend the calendar meeting scheduled for Saturday March 25 at the Community Building; this meeting has been called by Ann Rider and Debbie Teener -G bring-all agencies, programs together to create anastercalendar of events. Currently there is a program *-,eing held at the Newfield School discussions nt h Tina Sherry have expanded to include family iteracy, GED projects etc. This topic has been discussed at PTA meetings, with the school and the community in general. Debbie Teeter is following-up with this and will call literacy volunteers, GEE) programs and criteria for developing them. This will be an ongoing project with the idea that offering local programs may encourage—more—pa`rticipation.- ---- —- Camp_Vera reported that she has received the camp registration paper work; she and Karen met to discuss budget and program changes. She believes that the after care program would benefit by hiring a "fresh" adult leader who would work 5 days with the younger children (k-3rd)while Beth and Reid would share the supervision of the older youth. Jr. Counselors would work in rotation in the afternoon. Beth will be working with the ass, is certified to be First Aid/Emergency responder for field trips, and will work with older youth. She is also planning field trips and events that will likely include fire safety, trip to Fire Department and a'Bike Rodeo. Staff for the summer camp is always a concern. Carolyn suggested that she explore IC and Cornell students as camp may be a possible match for work study. Michelle suggested calling Joey Steingarten, IYS, and drama person for possible connects with drama staff. Vera will do. Old Business T A brief discussion about the Basketball wrap up meeting:at the:IYB. There is some confusion about the lnsurance'about who pays for this. Carol will call Liz Vance to clarify. If not ECC we can drop this expense from our winter insurance coverage. There does need to be a system in place to collect the Adult waver forms which the ECC needs for documentation-our insurance covers this program. Status of Building use.and restruc#ure=No news Robert Harvey is no longer chairperson of: the Committee. Carolyn will.try to get update for the April meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 PNI, 3/13/06
