Judah Baker was born February 27, 1763, Coxsackie, New York.'
Judah Baker has always been referred to as the first permanent settler of Enfield, in
1804.
Judah married Lydia Chase (1769— 1863) daughter of Obadiah Chase(1743-1799)
and Susannah Knapp (1755-1827) in 1785. Lydia was 16 years old and Judah was 22
years old.
Judah lived in Phillipstown, New York, Dutchess County in 17902. The Census read 1-
free white male and head of family; 3 white males under 16, and 1 free white female
and head of family.
During the Revolutionary War against the British (1775— 1783) he was a Private
serving under Captains Barnum and Williams, Colonel Cortland's regiment, in the Sixth
Regiment of the Dutchess County Militia, State of New York34 Need records as to the
exact dates.
Three children are known as of October 26, 2004, Susanna (1791-1825); Obadiah C.
(1794) and Nehemiah.
According toaSelkreg5, Judah, age 41, came from Coxsackie, Dutchess County, with
his wife and seven children, three horses and wagon, and traveled westward by the
usual route`until he reached Fall Creek near Ithaca, NY. He was in Tompkins County
by or before 1800, as he listed in the census of Tompkins County, Town of Ulysses,
State of New York,. He first settled in Tompkins County, Ithaca, New York along Fall
Creek.
Census showed he had 3 daughters(Susanna (1791) one below 10 years, one 10- 16
years, and one 16-26 years); 3 sons (Obadiah (1794)'one below 10 years, one 10- 16
years, and one 16-26 years). Plus one other son, Nehemiah (16-26 years)with a wife,
and two sons under the age of 10 years olds. Nehemiah is listed as his son, in Judah's
will/deed December 19,`1851 (Book'58 page 305), Tompkins County Court House,
Ithaca,°NY.

Judah lived in Enfield until his death May 7 1851 at the age of 88. Lydia died at the
age of 93 years, 8 months, and 13 days, July 10, 1863. Judah and Lydia are buried in
the Christian Cemetery in Enfield.
