We still need a committee or person for programs. All members were encouraged
to bring new members into the club.
Sue gave an Enfield Historian’s Report:
Enfield Harvest Festival – September 19. History Hunt/ civil war display.
Sue asked for sponsorship of small participate gifts for the history hunt -
$200.00 from the Historical Society. Everyone agreed on this amount. Molly
Adams suggested presenting the participates with a certificate of membership to
the Society. This was thought to be a great idea and that it would create possible
involvement to the Society.
Sue is working on the life’s of the civil war soldiers from Enfield for the events
of commemorating the civil war in the county 2011.
The History Center has sent out a notice that the announcement of its
closing is premature and not in its present plans.
Ellie and Sue have been attending monthly meetings with the Municipal
Historians of Tompkins County (MHTC) at the History Center in Ithaca.
Region 10 Association for Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS) will
be meeting in Tompkins County on October 10. The MHTC will host the event.
Sue attended the March 14 Regional 10 APHNYS meeting in Owego. The
program was, CR Jones – Cooperstown on Cemeteries and Civil war of Tioga
county.
MHTC have put together a book (200+) photos of people around Tompkins
County early 1900’s to 1960’s with the History book press, “The People of
Tompkins County at Work and Play”. It should be out in late fall.
Sue also reported she is now chairperson of the Cemetery Committee – Town
of Enfield. She has placed the list of who is in the cemeteries in an excel spread
sheet.
She is also placing the listing into a genealogy program which allows you to
add more information such as pictures and obituaries.
After much discussion about history the meeting was adjourned.
