(3) Egypt Creek on the west side of Lewis Street
passes through the Brookside Drive and
Greystone Drive subdivision areas. The banks
of the.creek are quite low as are the eleva-
tions of the residential properties. During
the recent flooding this creek was carrying
water at 100% capacity. Flooding was avoided
only because the Village had undertaken to
dredge Egypt Creek from the subdivisions
westerly to Spring House Road. We were also
fortunate in February that the ice had melted
since previous experience shows that ice jamming
causes extensive flooding to these residences
especially on Brookside Drive. The effect of
the new larger volumes of water will certainly
cause residential property damage: If the
state plans to undertake the proposal shown on
the sketch then they should be willing tore-
build the stream banks through the subdivisions.
(4) N number of groups including the Village of
Dryden, Town of Dryden, Dryden School and
George Junior Republic are presently discus-
sing with DOT the dangerous situation along
Route 38. DOT is proposing that a sidewalk
be built for pedestrians walking from Route
13 to the existing sidewalk on the Dryden
School property. Because of the number of
pedestrians coming from the Village, our Vil-
lage has also discussed a sidewalk on the east
side of Lewis Street running north to Route 38.

I believe that if the state intends to effect the drainage
pattern shown on the proposed sketch then it should be
willing to replace the Lewis Street bridge before any con-
struction begins and to install the above - mentioned side-
walks simultaneously with the construction of any drainage
ditching. Egypt Creek's banks must also be improved.

VILLAGE of DRYDEN
DRYDEN, NEW YORK 13053
Dryden-Town Board
65 East Main Street
Dryden, New York 13053
Gentlemen:
TOMPKINS COUNTY
March 2, 1984
Enclosed is a copy of a sketch I received from
NYS Department of Transportation showing the proposed
drainage pattern from the Dryden Enterprise property
(shown as "Cotterill property" on the sketch). The pro-
posal is very disconcerting because of the potential
volumes of water that would flow along Lewis Street to
Egypt Creek. This would increase the likelihood of flood-
ing, particularly with respect to the Wood property on
Lewis Street and the,Brookside Drive and Greystone Drive
subdivisions. I am enclosing copy of a letter I have
written to Mr. Fred Grout of the NYS DOT voicing objec-
tion.
I am sure that the members of
Board can appreciate this very serious
asking that you take whatever action is
vent the implementation of the proposed
for the Dryden Enterprise property.
