T. Bonn, B. Lavine, D. Kibel, C. Dann, Zo. S. Stewart,
At September 21st meeting, the board thought it would be advantages to have
someone from the Dryden School System at our next meeting to let us know the im-
pact on the school from developments that are being built in our area. Represent-
ing the Dryden School System at this meeting are, William Demig and Pat Hamill.
Mr. Demig stated they had done some long range planning, started in 1970.
The following are some things this planning included:
1) Enrollment planning:
a) keep abreast with builders, contractors on amount
of housing being built.
b) difficulty projecting enrollment because of mobility
of students whether motivated by universities or in-
dustries.
c) for past twenty -five years enrollment has gone up and
this year first enrollment down..
d) includes rough estimate of 2432 students in four build-
__. ing s .
1) Freeville K -3
2) Cassavent K -3
3) Dryden Elementary K -6
4) High School 7 -12
e) basic reduction in kindergarten enrollment, others
basically same.
Mr. Hamill gave a very detailed presentation as to where they are going in
the future, based on enrollment and financial figures. The Dryden School System
covers an area of ninety -six square miles which includes seven townships and three
counties. He presented charts based on above. A prediction for 1982 -1983 school
year is a large increase in secondary school because some large number classes
in elementary school. Freeville school has the highest turn over, from 33'1/3%
to 50 %, due to trailer parks.

Under financial cost, Mr. Hamill had a chart which included comparisons with
Cortland - school system on administration costs, transportatinn etc. State aid
chart was also presented.
In conclusion, one big thing to think of for future planning is status of
sewage in Town of Dryden. It was stated by Mr. Demig that an increase of be-
tween three hundred and four hundred students would mean something would have to
be done due to there being no more room in the schools.
Mr. Roger Lampila from Virgil Road,
a road which is a private drive now, as
mile long with two homes presently on it
in future.
represented Clint Cotterill on accepting
town road. The road is about 1/3 of a
and possiblilty of a third being built
Mr. Kibel read minutes from August 76 meeting, when this same plan was
presented then by Mr. Cotterill. At that time it was turned down because plan
too sketchy. The only changes made since that meeting are underground electric
and telephone cables and building of two house.
It was decision of board that Mr. Cotterill has to go through a procedure
which includes proper plans and studies, before road could be designated a town
gtad.
her discussion:
Chairwoman Caldwell had a copy of a letter sent to John Anderson from Mr.
George Schlecht concerning County Trace sub - division, which will be filed
with all other information about that sub - division.
Chairwoman Caldwell noted that the County Planning Board had a meeting
and discussed the following:
1) Solid waste disposal plan that would have waste from three coun-
ties to go to sight near Cornell heating plant and burned.
2) Industrial development, where going especially since Ithaca Gun
move. Dryden limited because of water and sewer.
3) Railroad right of way involving town of Dryden, village of
Dryden and Freeville, what to do about it. A letter from Helen
Amdur stated that Dryden wishes to exercise its option for one
section for purpose of sewage use.
Chairwoman Caldwell read a letter from Helen, involving.a new development
and what they should do. It was agreed they would have to go through sub - division
produre.
Mr. Kibel thought County Health Department should be involved concerning
lidustry development in area.
Mr. Kibel also brought up the problem with intersection at Ferguson and Irish
Settlement Roads. After some discussion as to what solution should be and what

d been discussed with County Planning Board and Town Supervisor Cotterill,
r. Kibel made a motion to support Mr. Cotterill's idea of catty- corner new right
of way from existing Irish Settlement- Ferguson Road across Cook's property to
lower part of Irish Settlement Road and cutting off section between Cook's pro-
perty etc.
After some discussion, the motion was voted on and carried with one
no vote from C. Dann.
Mr.L dvine made a resolution that we'd like to see some action on the
county on studying situation at intersection of Ellis Hollow Road and Turkey
Hill, Quarry Road due to number accidents there, due to increase of population,
speed on Ellis Hollow etc.
Mr. Bonn stated he thought the town clerk should look into a more efficient
copying machine.
Mr. Lavine still waiting to hear some decision concerning nuclear waste
disposal. It's been noted in last six meetings and would ask if Helen Amdur
has read the minutes.
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Bray - Secretary
