MEMO TO: Planning Boardf 1114111embers
Enclosed are the minutes to last month's meeting. Also the
press release for the public meeting on the SE road name changes
proposed.. Call me immediately if you see any error or addition.
See you all on April 21. Fred. Lengemann will have a. report on
a meeting he attended. Happ Sadd may be there with his major
subdivision, which shouldn't take too long. Then we launch
into the great SW section and our real challenge. Please be
thinking of that area and recommendations you may have. I
don't know if it will be possible to have our final public
meeting on that area in one month, but if we can it would be good..
One additional•problem w e have ignored is the names of some of
our State roads; that situation, at least, may take one more
meeting. We are making ground, however, and hopefully by this
summer Mr. Denman will be able to have all the cards together
and in early fall we'll have the blitz campaign of informing
everyone, getting some signs up ( ? -), and having a new town
map produced.
I hate to even think of this, but please be thinking of possible
replacements for Fred and Ben; they'll be leaving us this summer
for at least a full yea.r - =46111 hope no more.
Hope you all had a nice Easter.
See you next Thursday'.
1.
PS. I've asked Mr. Denman to come again next Thursday.

-i The Planning Board for the Town of Dryden met April 21, 1966 in
the Town Hall -at 8:00 with members, Curtiss, Lenpemann, Paterson,
Hardesty, Hanford, and Reed in attendance. Afro Denman, Etamons Ogden,
Art C1ar1 Lee and Irene Alexander, and James Belasco were also present.
The main purpose of tonight's meeting was to determine publ is
acceptance of certain proposed road name changes in the southeast
section of the town.
Chairman Curtiss introduced Lee and Irene Alexander to the group.
The Alexanders stated that they had read the news release on road name
changes and were surprised to learn that the road they reside on was,
and currently is, known as 12"cClintock Road. The road in question runs
from the edge of the Village of Dryden out toward Virgil. The Alexanders
supposed they lived on Lake Street Extension. They asked:
1 Why McClintock Road was so named.
72 If a road name change is in order, would it be better to
select a name that would be recognized or to choose a name
other than some family name.

immediate concern of the Village rather than the Town and suggested to
the Alexanders that they approach the Village and see if they would be

Denman pointed out that Caroline is numbered, and if the
road name is changed then the numbers of the homes might also be
changed. However, the Planning Board wishes to cooperate.
Art Clark stated that the name of the Old Peruville Road is going
to be changed. The Town of Groton feels that Route 38 should remain
ROUTE 38 instead of Freeville- Groton Road. The Planning Board wishes,
as ,far as possible, to cooperate with the Town of Groton but cap see
no alternative. The Planning Board requested .Emmons Ogden to inform
the Town Board that our original recommendation on the name of Groton'
Road for .Route 38, from Freeville to the Peruville Road, be approved
as originally recommended..
Alton Reed - reported that Ringwood Road on over the hill has been
approved for the Urban Renewal Plan.
Discussion was held on road name change on the end of Ift. Pleasant
Road and Mineah Road. Alton Reed will contact those residents having
equal interest in this specific area. The Planning Board ,felt that 46,
1,ft. Pleasant Road should bear right down to ion
arose as to naming private roads on the map. Emmons Ogden is to check
with the Town Board.
George Hanford had a report compiled by the Tompkins County Re-
source Development Committee. The Booklet, Regional Resource Develop-
ment, is designed to be used by citizens of Tompkins County individually
and /or collectively to examine and hopefully to better understand some
o,f the ,factors that spell CHANGE for their community. It is designed
and intended to be on1 y a starting .point ,from which additional avenues
of study can be explored. The nest meeting of this Committee is

Dryden, New York
Dear Tom
Supervisor
At our regular meeting held. April 21, 1966, the Planning Board
was able to confirm its earlier recommended. list of road name changes
for the southeast section of town. Only two people attended our
public meeting, and we were able to expla.ln our thinking to them
satisfactorily so that our recommendations as proposed were accep-
table.
Our recommendations are as follows: TheLake Road will start
at the end of Lake Street in the village of Dyyd.en, run south then
east around Dryden Lake to the Cortland County line, superseding
that portion of road. now known as East Lake Road; West Lake Road
will run from the Lake Road south to Route 38; WcClintock Road will
start from the end. of Lake Street in the village of Dryden and run
to the Virgil Road, superseding what is now
called East Lake Street; the Dryden Virgil Road. will be called. just
the Virgil Road.; Southworth Road will run from the McClintock Road
in the village of Dryden south to the Lake Road; Keith Lane will
run from Route 38 to the Lake Road.; the Harford Road will continue
from the Town of Caroline through to Route 38, superseding the
Speed Road; Ferguson Road will run from South Street in the village
of Dryden to the Yellow Barn Road, eliminating; the need. for Ferguson
