Membership Updates There is still a vacancy for a Town representative. Kris sent a notice to the
Ithaca Journal for publication. Members should continue to try to recruit someone for this slot.
Recreation Updates Tracy reported that the Rec. Dept. will distributing a brochure listing its
programs by date, age, etc. by April. Tracy will make sure InShik gets a copy for inclusion in the
listing she is compiling of available Dryden youth programs. The Town will be putting up more
signs to direct people to Town parks. This summer will be for Dryden Lake and Montgomery Park;
signs for other parks will be put up in the future. Kris asked whether YCC might help with this.
Tracy will check. The Town is also planning upgrades to Montgomery Park involving painting of
the gazebo (another YCC possibility?) and adding more storage. Also the surface of the tennis
courts will ground off and resurfaced (YCC could help with removal of old, ground off surface).
The Rec. Dept, is still working on a skate park for Montgomery Park, there is a meeting scheduled
with the Village in April. Some funds for the skate park have been raised through a memorial fund.
The recreation survey report will be released soon. A private (non -Town) series of band concerts
will take place at the fire hall in addition to the concerts sponsored by the Town.
Kris reported that a meeting to discuss the V. Dryden camp director civil service issue with Steve
Estes, Reba Taylor, Deb Marrotte and Janice Johnson was postponed due to Deb's need for back
surgery.
Review of DYC Powerpoint JoEllen presented the Powerpoint she has prepared about the DYC.
Some minor revisions were suggested; she will incorporate them and email the presentation to all
for closer review. Discussion followed about how to use the presentation; ideas included:
share with Tovvvn, Village boards; Rec. Commission; Booth at Dryden Dairy Days; Harvest Festival;
middle school PTA's; Houtz Hall soup suppers at the Conununity Hall. At next month's meeting
we'll prioritize this list and make a plan.
Needs Assessment Next month, in addition to hearing CCB's annual report from Dave, Tom and
Linda, we'll hear from Barb Baker who, with a group of young people, did a youth mapping project
last summer in Dryden. In terms of who else to hear from, all agreed it would be useful to hear
from school personnel, preferably guidance. Tracy will ask the middle and high school guidance
counselors if they can attend our April 11'h meeting. Kris distributed an updated profile of Town of
Dryden; JoEllen may use some of these data in the Powerpoint.
Gathering Feedback on Funded Pro rams We discussed the need to gather feedback from parents,
youth, and others impacted by our programs. The feedback form we designed several years ago
will work for use with parents and youth but we need something different to use with teachers and
school personnel regarding the Police & Corrununity program and their experience with CCE's
Dryden Youth Services. Alan volunteered to draft a form; he'll share it at our next meeting.
Upcoming Transportation Survey The countywide transportation survey of high schoolers Kris first
mentioned in the fall is gearing up; plans are for the web -based survey to "go live" in April. The
survey will be customized for each school district. Kris' department is recruiting members in each
district to serve on a local action team. The team will review the draft survey, possibly creating a
couple of additional questions to be asked in that community, help publicize the survey and review
the results. Kris asked for a volunteer from the DYC (Alan volunteered) and for suggestions for the
Dryden Action Team. Suggestions: Steve Stelick (link to Rec. commission and 'Town Board); Paul
Streeter & Mary Valentinelli (DYOF); John Bailey, contact from high school site based team;
district transportation coordinator; Jen Dube (Rec. Dept.); school administration; youth reps. from
Serateen and /or National Honor Society. To facilitate youth and school admin. participation, Tracy
suggested holding the meetings at school at the end of the school day and to provide food. Tracy
suggested including a notice with the March 17 report cards.
Next meeting The April meeting was moved to April 11, 6:30 PM at "Town Hall (to accommodate
the school break).
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM
