November 15, 2005
Minutes
Present: JoEllen bailey, Kristen Blackman, InShik Lee, Kris Bennett, Nita Baldwin
Excused: Tracy Kurtz, Lyndsi Prignon, Alan Macomber Absent: Eric McConnell
No quorum was present; approval of minutes and other official commission decisions did not occur.
Goals We looked at the draft goals and made some revisions which will be presented for adoption to the
full DYC next month. For the "needs assessment" Kris said there are numerous ways to do this. Her
dept. may not be hosting community forums like 3 years ago, so Dryden could do other things to assess
needs. For example, we could ask Margaret Ryan and School Resource Officer Stanbro to talk with us
about what they see as youth trends or issues. We could do the same with school staff and others; Kris
and Tracy will try to identify appropriate school people. Also, we could explore hooking on to the Apr.
26 5" grade open house or at least have info available there on DYC programs including the Powerpoint
JoEllen is creating InShik volunteered to collect info on Dryden programs for the "identify youth
services, programs, and resources" goal; Kris will email her the OJ Guide as a reference and the OJ info
collection form. JoEllen is working on a Powerpoint about the DYC which could be shared with
community groups, Town and Village Boards, and at our "annual meeting." Kris gave her some photos
of program participants and will check with programs to make sure parents gave authorization for the use
of their child's photo.
Membership and Community Updates — JoEllen has been officially appointed by the Village of Dryden.
She suggests that we schedule a time in 2006 to make a presentation about the DYC to the Village
Trustees. After checking to confirm that Alan would like to be reappointed, Kris discussed this with Reba
and she will put it on the Dec. agenda. InShik has been reappointed to a new 2 year term by the Village
of Freeville. She attended the recent Freeville Village Trustee meeting and told them about the DYC and
the 2006 budget. They would attend an information meeting /annual meeting if we had one. There is no
news on whether Cynthia Waterman has submitted the application Kris sent to her; Kris will ask Tracy to
hollow up. Jen Dube has updated the DYC w•ebsite, listing all current members. Kris will submit a 2006
Program List to her shortly.
Budget The County Legislature will vote tonight on the budget; no changes are expected. If approved,
Kris will send out 2006 allocation awards since the budget will be finalized. Kris has already notified
programs that will not receive fundilig in 2006.
Other — Reba is looking for carolers for Christmas. Her request highlights the need for us to better
explain our mission.
Kris suggests that this year's annual report have 2 versions: a short one like in recent years and an
expanded one for towns/villages so they can have a better idea of program activities and outcomes.
Next meeting will be Dec. 20,630 PM at Town Hall. We will invite YCC and Police & Community to
attend. In addition to asking for a general overview by Dryden Police, we decided to ask Chief Ryan to
talk with us, as part of our needs assessment, about trends and issues the Dryden Police Dept. has'noted
about Dryden youth. We also will ask Officer Stanbro, the school resource officer, to a future meeting to
do the same. Please notify Kris or Tracy if you are unable to attend.
