Conservation Corp discussion - Allan introduced himself and gave a short
history of the conservation Corp and his role with it. Allan will be working with Jim
D. (he ran the project last summer) and Marie to recruit both kids and projects.
Dave suggested a trail project that would include maintenance. Karen mentioned
that there may be an Ellis Hollow project this year and will contact Joe Lalley as
follow up to a suggestion he made earlier. Will go back to the towns to see if they
have ideas or needs. Marie will begin advertising for and recruiting youth.
Youth Program Report — Marie reviewed the handout (see attached). Not many
jobs for kids but the kids continue to sign up for jobs. Will continue to work on this
and may do some revamping of this program. Developing job entry skills seems
more realistic than matching them to jobs at this point. Will do some Club Dryden'
activities this summer and will hire a few youth to work with her. Other activities
are going well.
Dave shared that his program is going well, the in school groups are meeting and
seem to be filling a need for the youth who participate.
Primetime discussion — It has been more difficult than Dave thought to develop a
consistent group of youth to work on this project. He has had some feedback
from the group and they have a focus for the event. The group wanted to have
engaging topics that not lecture style but more interactive. At this point they have;
Mike Demond will present "Finding your future" and Wally Woods will resent a
workshop on independent learning skill, individual thought process and how this
fits into the whole world spectrum.
Amanda- distributed the current budget, shared the primetime estimated costs
and announced that the Dryden Tobacco Grant has been funded which will
support a spring and summer project which includes a drama piece, video
tapping and final presentations in the health classes at the school. Amanda has
written two funding requests one to the United Way Youth and Philanthropy and
to NYSEG mini grants.
Old Business — Penny visited the Tae Kwon Do class, only a couple of youth
were present, however, they were fully engaged in the instruction and working
with the adults and the leader. Penny felt that this was a positive class and will go
back to observe during a non holiday week.
New Business — Karen reported that the Counter is looking at budget for next
year and that likely this will moan that we will not see County increases in 2002_
She will keep us posted as this becomes clear.
This may effect what programs we fund in 2002 as the Counter money is matched
exactly by the Town and Municipalities.
