Conservation Corp Projects — Allen Green (IYB) Discussion of summer projects.
There are currently two projects that have been proposed. One in the Village of
Freeville this would include some construction of benches, tables at the ball
fields. In the Village of Dryden Sargent Ryan has suggested a clean up & brush
clearing of an area used by high school youth for smoking and drinking. This
particular area is private property and this will have to be discussed with the
Mayor. Karen will follow up with this and Allen will meet with Sgt. Ryan and
Penny to look at the site and to discuss the scope of the job. There is still a need
for projects and Allen will follow up with Mark Varvayanis (supervisor) and Tom
Hatfield.
Chuck is recruiting for the conservation corp, and has about 8 youth interested
and a majority of these are girls. There are signs and applications at the school
and will be sure to get some into the guidance office as well as with Marie. Will
follow up with suggestions to publish openings in the Tidbits and Pennysaver.
Chuck will check in with Nita Baldwin and Diane MacFall for 1 -9 forms /tax forms
® and getting youth signed up for the summer payroll.
Amanda introduced Marie Holl who will be working with the Club Dryden Project
this summer as well as employment and one week of Drama.
She has several ideas and will be recruiting high school staffers at the end of the
month to begin planning for summer activities.
Amanda distributed Dave's program report and discussion of the Summer Skies
Program. This looks like a viable summer morning camp program.
Budget for this program looks very good. Salaries for Marie Holl will come from
the part time Program manager line and still leave us funds enough to hire a part
time staff person in the fall. The commission will discuss this option at the June
meeting.
Penny will invite Mary to participate on a small committee with Karen Coleman
which will meet with Sgt. Ryan and begin to discuss the youth development
agenda for the Community police programs. The police department is paying a
major portion of the Jr. Police Academy again this summer. Penny will set up a
meeting soon.
Old Business- After Graduation party donation. A motion was made to
recommend that $100. Of the non designated funds be used to support the
efforts of the parents to provide a alcohol /drug free party for the graduating class
of 2000. Voted to recommend. Karen will follow up with the proposal to the Town.
New business- The Youth Commission has now been through one whole cycle of
business and would like to spend the June and July meetings reviewing their
goals and begin setting funding priorities for 2001. Requests for funds are mailed
mid July and reviewed by the Commission at the September meeting. The
commission would like written program reports from Cooperative Extension but it
is not necessary for the staff to attend these meetings.
There will be no meeting in August.
