Summer Conservation Corps Report- Allen Green and Jim D'Alterio spoke
about ideas for the summer projects. Based on recent playground safety
information, Allen, Jim and Steve Lauzun (Parkitects, lnc.) have visited and
assessed the play structures built by the Conservation Corps over the last
several years. A completed report, including cost of repairs, will be forwarded tc
each municipality .. Allen is recommending that these repairs be made to the
playgrounds so that safety risks are reduced. He asked if this direction was one
the Commission supported. Commission members agreed that this would be a
good focus for the conservation group. The IYB will put together a project list
based on municipal decisions
Youth Development report- JoAnn and David - each reported on current activities
and briefly discussed summer planning which will be discussed in more detail at
® the May meeting. See attached reports.
Youth Development Update - Barbara The most recent budget was distributed.
Will work with JoAnn to put together the Youth Employment summer project.
The Club Dryden project will begin to be worked on. Youth will be hired to help
develop a summer program. Location, times etc will all be decided this spring.
Current summer planning.; propose a 5 week 112 day program for youth ages
10- 14years. A method for collecting program fees should be decided on in the
next few weeks, will Coop Ext. collect or will the Town.?
New Business - Karen A request was received from Reba Taylor re: funds for a
camp counselor at their summer camp. She requested $1000.00 which would
then allow them to hire all of the counselors at minimum wages. They feel that
this would help them recruit counselors.
The Commission agreed that this made sense and voted to allocate the funds to
the Village. This leaves $500. in youth salaries to be allocated. Karen will do the
follow up on this.
