DRYDEN YOUTH COMMISSION
MINUTES
JANUARY 21, 1993
Meeting brought to order by Chairperson Anne Bianchi at 6:45 P.M.

Guests: Nita Baldwin, Allen Green (Conservation Corps), Ben
Richardson (new youth worker), Wendi Shaw (Family & Children's
Services) Chet Salustri (Ithaca Youth Bureau),
Tom Hatfield amended minutes by adding Nita Baldwin as present,
Jack Margoles seconded. Minutesoapproved as amended.
Tom Hatfield mentioned Dan Reynolds may have a possible replacement
for himself.
Diana Radford talked with Kathy Gee about replacing Jean Simmons
as a representative to the Dryden Youth Commission from Freeville.
She agreed unless we felt a conflict of interest. The Commission
felt comfortable. Diana will contact Robin Yengo,
Tom Hatfield reported on the December Town Board Meeting. Town
renewed our contract with Family k children's services and okayed
our recommendations for a full -time Youth Worker at the figures
suggested.

Jim Schug suggested we Use youth to fix up and improve. the many
abandoned cemeteries in the Town - that come under the Town
jurisdiction, Jim Schug has appointed a committee of 3, Mark
Varvoyanis, Marty Blivers and Harry P.,O.don. Mahlon Perkins made
�a log of all the cemeteries who owns, who ,is in charge.

Etna tommunity Association: JoAnn Cogswell were wondering if a
project could be devised to build a playground for Etna on Etna
Road? Diana will, contact Joanne about her specific ideas.
Allen would be willing to visit sites to see about possible jobs.
Vicki said Dryden Historical Society compiled a history of the
schools so maybe they could be contacted to help set up a
ishistorical notebook of cemeteries etc.
Nancy reported that the Learning Web has staff to help yoi.ith
projects in Dryden.

Ben talked about himself and. his expectations and the goal of
reaching all kids in on way or another. Ben experts to undergo a
lot of training, CPR, Suicide Prevention, Sexual Abuse Project
training.
wendi felt their choice in hiring Ben was their hest possible
choice for a trustworthy, caring, person interested in working with
youth,
There was much general discussion about contractual issues
including some explanations by commission members about why they
targeted the goals and population they did for Dryden Youth Pride.
Family and. Children's Services met and drew tip guidelines for the
Outing Programs for Ben's responsibility in the outing Program.
They will need to figure out how to take a mixed group on any
overnight outings.

Ben and Wend'i will come. back to the February meeting with a
tentative work plan for now - summer. Monthly events to take us
into summer..
