HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-01-29Climate Smart Community Task Force Minutes of the Thursday January 29, 2020 Meeting Caldwell Conference Room/Dryden Town Hall Attendance: Ray Burger, John Kiefer, Joe Wilson, Loren Sparling, Nancy Munkenbeck, Alice Green, Marie McRae, Chuck Geisler Call to Order: 5:31 pm Approval of November Meeting Minutes Update on grant proposals • The Town did not receive approval for a grant proposal to fund 50% of the costs of Dryden’s Comprehensive Plan Update. CCE Energy Manager Terry Carroll said he would be willing to review the grant proposal if the Town wants to re-submit it in this year’s funding cycle. It was decided to try again. • The Town did receive a $700K grant for preservation of riparian buffers/wetlands in two areas of Etna. There was some discussion of the exact locations and whether the work would qualify for CSC points. Designate Liaison to County Hazard Mitigation Study group. Nancy volunteered to serve as liaison and has already contacted County Planner Scott Doyle about meeting times Review of Progress on Action Items See attached list of the action items already underway and potential new actions with addition of specific action item numbers and points High School outreach efforts Loren met with the Green team at Ithaca High School to explain the Climate Smart Community opportunities for involvement. Osamu provided a new fact sheet geared for youth. Alice met with Dryden High School’s Sustainability Club to talk about Climate Change planning as part of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan update. The idea of the DHS Leadership Club hosting a Youth Summit will be brought to the School Superintendent. New CSC Member Alice noted that Chuck and Marie have attended the last two meetings and invited them to join the Task Force. Chuck said he would like to join.
