HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-03-05      Meeting Notes     Summary: The following items were discussed during the Broadband Committee Meeting held on 5 March 2021. 1.Project Updates a.Utility mapping has been completed along with surveying for the underground and pole attachments b.STN Coordination and ARC Grant application - there is mutual interest for the Town and STN to connect STN to the Town and TC3 Campus i.The application would cover approximately 13.5mi and about $945,000. c.Connection to Dryden Schools d.Connection to TC3 2.Schedule Updates a.Design currently on hold until we can determine the topology i.Split PON ii.EPON iii.Active Ethernet iv.There are significant concerns with changing the design b.Estimates from Graybar to look at OMNIA purchasing contract c.Permitting is ongoing and we will be looking at it in the coming weeks. 3.Business Plan a.Department Board of Commissioners looks like it may be necessary to represent the Town i.How many members should that consist of? ii.Authorities, powers and duties from the Town. iii.Utilize Town Clerk, Secretary and Treasurer   HUNT ENGINEERS, ARCHITECTS, LAND SURVEYORS & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, DPC  AIRPORT CORPORATE PARK, 100 HUNT CENTER, HORSEHEADS, NY 14845  T:​ 607-358-1000 | ​F:​ 607-358-1800 | HUNT-EAS.COM  Date: 3/05/2021 To: Jason Leifer (Town of Dryden), Daniel Lamb (Town of Dryden), Ryan Garrison (Hunt EAS), Karl Kolesnikoff (Town of Dryden), Sam Bouabane (Town of Dryden), Ray Burger (Town of Dryden) From: Adam Monell (Hunt EAS) Project: Dryden FTTH Design Phase 1 Project No.: 1122.042 Re: Broadband Committee Meeting     iv.Receipt of Funds goes through the Town b.General Manager/Managing Partner c.Subcontractors i.In house or 3rd party d.Transition Plan 4.Bonding Strategy a.Consider separating Distribution/Backbone cabling from Customer installations b.OMNIA Partner purchasing - State contracts that have already been bid 5.P2P (Ethernet) compared to GPON Technologies a.1:1 vs. 1:4, 1:8, 1:16 b.Design Differences i.Total Cost of ownership leans toward GPON ii.GPON is the standard and they are continuing to be developed iii.Active Ethernet offers symmetrical bandwidth for all connections iv.According to Corning Inc, 95% of greenfield deployments are GPON c.OPEX i.Active Ethernet would significantly increase active equipment in the field. ii.Higher cable counts would mean a higher repair cost and increased time to splice in replacement fiber. 6.Clarity Connect - Chuck Bartosch a.Clarity Connect currently has a small footprint in the Southern portion of the Town of Dryden i.96 and 144 count fiber at 6 different cabinets ii.6 count fiber serving all cabinets iii.3.5 Mbps is the the average bandwidth use during peak hours iv.570 miles of total fiber, 243 total cabinets v.Services 1.They offer up to 1Gbps service - Standard 100 Mbps symmetrical 2.Very little telephone 3.No CATV vi.Clarity Fiber Solutions - Point Broadband 1.6 main divisions 2.Starting a new build in Hagerstown, MD vii.Main project currently in Northern Cortland and Tioga Counties viii.How can we work together with Clarity Connect? 7.Next meeting 3/19 @ 10:30am a.Jason would like the agenda prior to the 17th   HUNT ENGINEERS, ARCHITECTS, LAND SURVEYORS & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, DPC  AIRPORT CORPORATE PARK, 100 HUNT CENTER, HORSEHEADS, NY 14845  T:​ 607-358-1000 | ​F:​ 607-358-1800 | HUNT-EAS.COM
