Present: Christina Dravis, Katie Quinn-Jacobs, Janice Bretscher, Tony Bretscher, Marty Kopcho
1. Goals for 2020
a. Emergency Preparedness Trainings for Elderly and Disabled
i. Help Organize and Facilitate a minimun of 2 trainings conducted by Amy
Jo DeKoeyer, from FLIC, in Town of Dryden
b. Create a Disaster Registry for Disabled People in Town of Dryden
i. Seek assistance from the Office of the Aging, David Whelan from Niagara
University, Tompkins County Health Dept.
ii. Promote sign-in option to be on the Disaster Registry for Disabled at
Tabling/Community Events
1. Describe the benefits of signing on to Registry
a. Be notified of upcoming events such as adverse weather
events to allow individuals to be prepared
b. Receive training on Emergency Preparedness and what
supplies etc. to have ready
c. Receive assistance should prolonged power outages occur
that effect life-sustaining medical equipment
d. Receive assistance if evacuation or sheltering out of home
is necessary
c. Identify and create a map of Shelter Facilities in Town of Dryden
i. Review FEMA website for guidelines on shelter requirements
ii. Consult with American Red Cross to determine what resources they are
prepared to provide to shelters
1. Cots, bedding etc.
iii. Create a list of possible shelter locations in Town of Dryden and nearby
communities
1. Schools, Colleges, Churches, Community Centers, Hotels
iv. Contact each facility to discuss possibility of serving as a shelter
v. Determine Occupancy Limits for each shelter location
vi. Determine additional resources that may be needed at each shelter
location
1. Examples: Generators, Shower Facilities, Additional Toilet
Facilites
vii. Notify New York State Emergency Management of additional resources
that may be needed in times of a disaster
d. Connect with the Tompkins County Healthy Neighborhood Program to help
promote the program in the Town of Dryden
i. Want to ensure residents of the Town of Dryden take advantage of the
program which provides free smoke/CO monitors, Fire Extinguishers, First
Aid Kits and Radon Detection Kits
2. Dominion Energy – Borger Compressor Station
a. Application Permits have been submitted to the DEC for all upgrades to the
facility that were promised in 2019.
b. Noted: continued presence of gas odor in the vicinity of the Borger Station, in
particular on the trails of the Ellis Hollow Nature Preserve
i. Need to determine the source of odor/leak
ii. Consult with NYSEG to request maps of NYSEG pipelines/stations in the
vicinity of Borger Station and request if they could monitor the area with
methane detection equipment
3. Safety and Preparedness Committee Membership
a. Need to begin the cycle of replacing current members
i. One new member position available
b. Request the Town of Dryden list the S&P committee on their Volunteer Advisory
Committee Application Form
c. Request a Town of Dryden Board Member be appointed to the committee as is
the case with all other Town of Dryden Advisory Committee
