Draft
Dryden Recreation and Youth Commission
October 22, 2014
Members Present: Stephanie Mulinos (Chair), Kathy Gehring, and Rick Ryan
Guests: Bob Beck (Conservation Board Chair), Sharon Todd (SUNY Cortland, former
DRYC member), Dave Hall, and Shelley Lester (RYS)
Youth Services Coordinator: Kris Bennett
Recreation Director: Jennifer Jones
The meeting was opened at 7PM.
Introduction of guests: Bob Beck, Conservation Board Chair
Mr. Beck joined the meeting to share information regarding the Rails to Trails
program. The Conservation Board wants to move forward on sections of the trail
between Freeville and McLean. They have sent a resolution to the Town Board
requesting they make the Freeville to McLean rail trail a priority for the Conservation
Board.
Mr. Beck is hoping to get support from the DRYC in this endeavor. So far the Town
Board has not moved on the requested resolution and Mr. Beck agreed that a
resolution from the DRYC in support of the Freeville to McLean rail trail would be
helpful. He continued to explain what he has already done including mapping
potential alternative paths (in areas where the trail would have to take an alternate
route) and talking to land and board members. He has a pile of material to review with
the expectation that he will gain a better perspective of past work and what will need
to be done.
Mr. Beck went on to explain the other resolution requested by the Conservation Board
is a request to withdraw the Open Space Plan directive in favor of a Natural Resources
Conservation Plan.

Draft
Shelley Lester: She provided the Commission with the budgets for Dave Hall, the
Youth Employment Program, and Nikki Nease - all programs are looking good for
hitting their target budget by the end of the year.

Old Business:
Parent Survey Update: Sharon Todd
S. Todd reported that her class has determined that they need about 250 surveys to
have a good representation of the Town. Her class has conducted about 20 surveys so
far and looking for ways to better reach the parents.
The Commission discussed possibilities and several members volunteered to help.
Youth questionnaire: S. Mulinos
She has looked through the student surveys. The one thing that stood out was the
question asking what the students liked and wanted more of; their responses indicate
that food and more restaurants are their priorities.
S. Mulinos ask what we are doing with the information that is being gathered. K.
Bennett said someone would have to put it all together in a report. The Commission
members agreed they liked last year's format - an 8.5 x 5.5 folded pamphlet - and
wish to use the same format this year.
Commission Vacancies
S. Mulinos has talked to Supr. Sumner regarding changing the Commission legislation
allowing a quorum based on the number of Commission members. Supr. Sumner
suggested it might be a possibility in the future but she prefers the Commission get all
9 seats filled and encourage attendance.
The Commission discussed changing the next meeting date due conflicts with
upcoming holidays. They agreed to hold it either December 3rd or 17th. S. Mulinos will
send out an email asking the rest of the commission for their input.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Erin A. Bieber
Deputy Town Clerk
