HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-02-10Dryden Agriculture Advisory Committee February 10, 2016 Members Present: Kim LaMotte (Vice-Chair), Joe Osmeloski, and Steve Foote Liaisons present: John Kiefer, Planning Board and Dan Lamb, Town Board Guests: George Frantz, Planning and Design consultant and Nancy Munkenbeck, Conservation Board The meeting was called to order at 7:30PM Ag Protection Plan update: Debbie Teeter - Handouts included a Town of Dryden Goals and Strategies Implementation Chart and several announcements of upcoming ag-related conferences. - The next step for the plan is to review the Goals and Strategies followed by a couple meetings with Dryden farmers and Ag land owners. o At the meetings, an update on the Farmland Protection Plan will be provided and then the attendees will break into groups to discuss and rank the Goals and Strategies (high, medium and low) o The goal of the meetings is to ensure that the needs and concerns of the farmers and ag land owners are being addressed in the plan and to allow further feedback. The Committee wants to be sure they have not left out or missed any vital issues. o The break-out groups will then be given one of the Recommendations to discuss and present to the rest of the meeting attendees - Debbie has been in contact with the Town Supervisor and the Planning Board Chair to set up a presentation for the Town Board and the Planning Board. - D. Lamb asked how big a property has to be to be considered agriculture. o There isn’t a size minimum, it is determined by what is being produced. - J. Osmeloski asked why the “responsibility” category would not be part of the handout at the farm community meetings. o The ag community might not be aware of what organizations are out there that can be used to complete goals o It could be a distraction at the farm community meeting. It is not so important to determine how it is going to happen as it is to determine what goals need to be completed. George Frantz - He is a member of the Department of City Regional Planning, supports the New York Association of Towns, NY Planning Federation and is a Planning and Design consultant. - He gives talks on zoning and agriculture in regard to what Towns can and cannot do/should or should not do. - He wrote a major part of the Dryden Comprehensive Plan and participated in the creation on the Lansing Ag Plan - He agreed to send a resume to D. Lamb to assist in the discussion tomorrow (at the Town Board meeting) Grants: - There was a short discussion on grants that are currently available and upcoming conferences - There is a large grant for farmers in the southern tier. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45PM. Respectfully Submitted, Erin A. Bieber Deputy Town Clerk
