The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was called
to order by Supervisor Gridley at 8 p . m . Present were Justices
H oagland and Spaulding , Clm . Baker , Hwy . Supt . Case , Assessor
Abrams , Planning Board Chairman Ogden , Atty . Williamson , and
five guests .
The minutes of February meeting were read and approved .
Mr . Henry Simons of N . Y . State Electric and Gas explained the
uniform rural house numbering system as set up by his firm - a
system providing for uniform numbering on a county wide basis .
This possibility will be reviewed by the Planning Board .
Justice Spaulding offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that an additional street light be placed
on pole #50 , line 732 , near the Glenn Edick place in the hamlet of
Etna;;. at a cost of $ 23 . 00 per year for a 2500 Lumen unit plus $ 15 . 00
per year for a controller , or $ 38 . 00 total ; in accordance with the
e xisting street' lighting contract . Resolution seconded by Clm .

Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that the Super-
visor be empowered to go before the Judge for an interpretation of
how McArthur Fund monies might be used ; with the recommendation
that it might possibly be used for a scholarship for a student
within the Town of Dryden , to be known as the McArthur scholarship ,
at present to be $ 150 . 00 per year ; with any balance of the income
from the fund left to accrue . Resolution seconded by Justice
H oagland . Roll call vote , all present voting YES . Absent : Clm .

Supervisor Gridley reported . that he has called Glass Shop in Ithaca
on 2/ 11 , asking that they make proposal for new front entrance to
o ffice . To date no reply has been received . It was auggested that
another estimate be obtained , possibly from a local person , before
deciding on proposal of Seven Valley Glass in :Cortland .

Supervisor Gridley reported that - - et with representatives of/
of Varna Fire Company re : their proposal for use of Town Building in
✓ arna . Explained that Town Bldg . might well become very valuable to
the Town , both as office for Deputy Clerk on occasion , and as a place
to base snow removal equipment , should the need make such a demand in
the future . It was stated further that , if the Town of Dryden were to
-abandon7 :the p:roperty: , they -would ' do' so , in accordance . ‘ with existing
agreement between Men ' s Club and Town of Dryden .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that approval be
g iven to Hwy . Supt . Case ' s recommendation that two highway employees
be given an increase of 10 $ per hour ; one from $ 1 . 85 and one from
$ 2 . 00 ; effective March first . Roll call vote , all present voting
YES . Absent : Clm . Saltonstall .
Assessor Abrams reported that the state has set a tentative equali -
zation rate for the Town of Dryden of 46 , a drop of one point from
last year . He commented that this is reflection of fact that sales
have continued to increase and prices to go up , while many assessments
are still at the 1955 market level .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that anew Town
highway map be prepared with the help of the Chairman of the Planning
B oard , the Assessor , and the Highway Superintendent . . Roll call vote ,
all present voting YES . Absent : Clm . Saltonstall .
P lans for an outside bulletin board for the Town Building were dis -
cussed , and the Supervisor was asked to check on further possibilties
and report at the April meeting .
L etter from Mrs . Hugh Holley re : Monkey Run Road was read and
placed on file .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that Highway
bills totaling 02887 . 32 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all
present voting YES . Absent : Clm . Saltonstall .

G eneral bills totaling #1226 . 39 be paid as audited . Roll
call vote , all present voting YES . Absent : Clm . Saltonstall .
The next regular meeting was set for Wednesday , April 3rd .
Supervisor Gridley reported that a plixick meeting has been set
up with Joseph Borowitz and Rocco Lucente to discuss mutual
problems in the planning of their building developments . '
( Mr . Borowitz has employed Jack Dougherty , engineer from Cornell
to work with him . )
Clm , Baker offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : WHEREAS , this Town Board has previously created a
P lanning Board for the Town , and -
WHEREAS , the Town Board by resolutionemay give sub-
d ivision control powers to the Planning Board , and
WHEREAS , the Town Board deems it desirable and
necessary for the proper development of the Town , that the
P lanning Board have such sub -division control powers ,
BE IT RESOLVED , that said Planning Board shall have
the power to review and approve new sub -divisions of land in
the Town of Dryden , consistent with the requirements of Article
16 of the Town Law , and
BLIT FURTHER RESOLVED , that the Planning Board
as soon as feasible prepare sub -division regulations for the
Town of Dryden to serve as a guide for developers .
Resolution seconded by Justice Hoagland . Roll call vote ,
all present voting YES . Absent : Clm . Saltonstall .
Atty Williamson \,was asked to present , to the Town Board at its
next meeting the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a
first c ' ass town .
Supervisor Gridley reported that , in the matter of possible
public water supply for the Varna area , the firm of O ' Brien
and Gere has suggested alternative plans to the one originally
outlined : A public meeting of people in the area concerned _
is being planned , tentatively for March 22nd .
Moved by_ Justice Hoagland , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
the keeting be adjourned . Carried and so ordered at 11 p . m .
