The regular mont y meeting o f the D ryden T own B oard was called
to order by Supervisor Gridley at 8 p . m . Present were Justices
Hoagland and Spaulding , Councilmen Baker and Saltonstall , Hwy .
Supt . Case , and the following guests - Walter Wilkins , Donald
Hennigan , and Mr . Clay of the Ithaca Journal .
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
General bills totaling $ 2307 . 24 be paid as audited . Roll call
vote , all voting . YES .
Moved by Clm . Baker;i.l seconded by Justice Hoagland , that highway
bills totaling $ 2663 .. 65 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all
voting YES . .
Clm.. Saltonstall offered the following resflution and moved its
adoption : WHEREAS , there has been appropriated a sum of $ 8600 . 00
in the 1963 budget for the purpose of paying fire contracts ,
BE IT RESOLVED that the same be paid to the respective
fire departments .
Resolution seconded by Justice Spaulding . Roll call vote , all
voting YES . .
Re : possible division of District #1 - Clm . Saltonstall reported
that Mr . Krause and Mrs . Heimlich are making a survey of the
Snyder Hill area people , before making plans for a general meeting .
Mr . Krause will be reporting back to the Town Board .
Sup . Gridley read letter from Varna Fire Co . suggesting the
possibility of their taking over the Town building in Varna for
a fire hall , thus releasing more space in the Community Bldg . for
recreational activities ; but space to be available at Town Bldg .
for voting as at present .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
tkn more information be obtained and that this matter be pursued .
Clm . Baker offered the following amendment to this motion , that
a representative of the men ' s club be included in discussion before
any decision is made . Amendment seconded be Clm . Saltonstall .
Amendment carried . Motion as amended carried and so ordered .
Sup . Gridley presented proposal from Seven Valley Glass Shop for
front of Town Bldg . at an estimated cost of $ 514 . 75 ( $429 . 75 without
anti panic hardware ) . Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by
Justice Hoagland ; that the Supervisor obtain other estimates before
action is taken on this work . Carried and so ordered .
Other letters read : Invitation to Board members to attend meeting
of League of Women Voters on Feb . 20th ; invitation to meeting of
eiviliService Employees Assn . on Feb . 11th ; and letter of thinks
from Dryden American Legion for use of Town Hall for meeting place .
Possibility of new numbering system was discussed , and it was
agreed to ask Mrs Henry Simons of N . Y . State Electric and Gas to
attend the March imeeting and explain their system of numbering ,
cost , etc .
Justice Spaulding raised the question as to whether Cornell Univ .
tight consider releasing frontage for building lots , in areas
where they have large properties , keeping right of way to fields
in back ; thus offsetting to some extent the increasing amount of
tax exempt property in the township .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that the
classification system and highway wage scale as used by the county
be reviewed further for possible action at the next meeting .
Carried and so ordered .
Stud y report and 1
P ro osal of O ' Brien and Gere for public water
supply for the Varna area was presented , and discussed . It was

agreed that further information is needed before taking the
matter to a meeting of people in the area concerned - including
the 4xxxkilommal xtuakmx possibility of getting figures on a
supply for a portion of the area covered in the full report .

Justice Spaulding reported that residents of the Etna area
are requesting an additional street light on route 366 . Sup .
Gridley agreed to check whether this can be done withoutia
petition of property owners .
Justice Spaulding presented request for a flag for Houtz Hall
in Etna and one was given to him for that purpose .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by, Clm . Saltonstall , that
the Supervisor be empowered to look into the possibilities of
equipment which might permit more gravel to be carried with
less man hours , and report at the next meeting . Carried and
so ordered .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , ' that
Mrs . Loren Hardesty be appointed to fill the unexpired term ,of
Mrs . Barbara York on the Planning Board , and that the Town " ..
Clerk cast one vote for Mrs . Hardesty . Carried and so ordered .
The matter of control of subdivision development will be held
over until time when counsel can be present at a. meeting .
The next regular meeting was set for Monday , March 4th .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that the
meeting be adjourned . Carried and so ordered . Adjourned at
