October 3 , 1962
The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was called
to order by Supervisor Gridley at 8 : 00 p . m . Present were Justice
Hoagland , Councilmen Baker and Saltonstall , Assessor Abrams ,
Highway Superintendent Case , and Attorney Williamson .
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that highway
bills totaling $ 5609 . 38 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all
present voting YES . Absent : Justice Spaulding .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that
General bills totaling $ 925 . 23 be paid as audited . Roll call
vote , all present voting YES . Absent : Justice Spaulding .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that the sum
of $ 3500 . 00 be transferred from Highway Fund Item 4 to Highway
Fund Item 3 . Roll call vote , all present voting YES . Absent :
Justice Spaulding .
Justice Hoagland offered tie following resolution and moved its
aadoption :
WHEREAS , the Supervisor has received the sum of $ 269 . 71 from
foreign insurance monies , and
WHEREAS , said money is to be paid to the various fire de -
partments ,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Supervisor pay said money to the
treasurers of the various fire deprtments as follows :

Freeville Fire Dept . 33 . 30
Varna Fire Dept . 83 . 24
So . Lansing Fire Dept . 13 . 32
McLean Fire Dept . 13 . 32

Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that the rate
of pay for election inspectors be $ 1 . 25 per hour , and that they
be allowed two extra hours , beyond the hours polls are open , on
Primary Day and Election Day ; and that the pay for instruction
meeting be $ 1 . 25 plus 8 $ per mile one way . Motion carried and
so ordered .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that
Charles Downey and Charles McGory be appointed custodians of the
voting machines , at a remuneration of $ 70 . 00 each . Motion
carried and so ordered .
Clm . Baker offered the following resolution and moved its adoption :
RESOLVED , By the Town Board of the Town of Dryden , that Jane
Korbas be , and hereby is authorized to dispose of record items

Commissioner of Education , and be it further
RESOLVED , That the Clerk of this Board be , and hereby is ,

The matter of the Town building at Varna was tabled until the
November meeting .
Atty . Williamson advised that he has received no reply regarding
request for speec zones , as requested on 11 /8/61 ( pg1373 ) , and
that a certified duplicate copy is being submitted .
Need for work on Schwan Drive and Zeman Road was discussed .

VARNA Town Board accept the proposal as outlined in the letter from O ' Brien
WATER and Gere , at a cost Of $ 750 . 00 . Roll call vote , all present voting
YES . Absent : Justice Spaulding .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : �
RESOLVED , That this Town Board does hereby prepare and approve
as the Preliminary Budget of this Town for the fiscal year beginning
on the first day of January , 1963 , the itemized statement of estimated
revenues and expenditures hereto attached and made a part of this
resolution , and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED , That such preliminary budget shall be filed
in the office of the Town Clerk where it shall be available for in-
spection by any interested person at all reasonable hours , and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED , That this Board shall meet at 8 : 00 o ' clock
p . m . on the 2nd day !lof November , 1962 , for the purpose of holding a
public hearing uponiisuch preliminary budget , and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED , That the Town Clerk give notice of such
public hearing in the manner provided in Section 113 of the Town Law ,
and that such notice be published and posted in substantially the
following form :
NOTICE OF HEARING UPON PRELIMINARY BUDGET
NOTICE is hereby given that the preliminary budget of the
Town of Dryden for the fiscal year beginning January 1 , 1963 , " has
been completed and filed in the Office of the Town Clerk at Dryden ,
where it is available for inspection by any interested person at all
reasonable hours .
Further notice is hereby given that the Town Board of the Town
of Dryden will meet and review said preliminary budget and hold a public
hearing thereon , at the Town Office at 8 p . m . on the 2nd day of
November , 1962 , and that at such hearing any person may . be heard in
favor of or against the preliminary budget as compiled , or for or
against any item ori! items therein contained .
Pursuant to Section 113 of the Town Law , the proposed
salaries of the following Town officers are hereby specified as
follows :

second publicationion any day subsequent thereto and beforethe day
of such hearing .

It was agreed that '! approval be given American Legion for use of the
Town Hall for its meetings .
Assessor. Abrams reported on completion of the tax roll with a total
assessment of $14 , 463 , 580 . 00 , representing a net gain of $ 677 , 713 . 00 ,
as compared to the11961 roll . In his report the assessor also

indicated concern about the increasingly heavy tax burden on the
property owner , and a belief that , as school and government costs
continue to rise , a source of revenue , other than the real
property tax , should be sought .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that
Assessor Abrams be enabled to attend annual meeting of the In -
ternational Assessors Association in Detroit in October , at a
cost not to exceed $ 100 . 00 . Motion carried and so ordered .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that Mrs .
Edith Freeborn be authorized to take possession of a memorial
Communion set presently at the West Dryden Church , the set
having been a memorial to a member of her family . Motion
carried and so ordered .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that
the meeting be adjourned . Motion carried and so ordered .
