September 5 , 1962
The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was called
to order by Supervisor Gridley at 8 p . m . Present were justices
Hoagland and Spaulding , Councilmen Baker and Saltonstall , Hwy .
Supt . Case , and Assessor Abrams .
One bid was received for 4 wheel drive truck with plow , as ad -
vertised in Tompkins County Rural News . Bid from Brockway
Motor Trucks was apenned and read - net price delivered to
Dryden on January 1 , 1962 , $ 22 , 500 . 00 . Bid referred to highway
committee for review .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
G eneral bills totaling $ 302 . 91 be paid as audited . Roll call
vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that Highway
bills , totaling $ 1855 . 30 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote ,
all voting YES .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
the sum of $ 1000 . 00 be transferred from Highway fund Item 4 to
H ighway fund , Item 3 . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Supervisor Gridley reported on hid study" bf the possibilities of
a public water supply for the Varna area . ( see memo of 8/ 15/62
f iled Water Districts ) The firm of O ' Brien and Gere is to present
a report of their finings , and action was delayed pending its
receipt .
Supervisor Gridley reported on possibilities of a Uniform •
Numbering System for the county , presently being studied by
Henry Simons , of N . Y . S . Gas and Electric . ( correspondence file )
Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that the Town of Dryden accept the
bid of Brockway Motor Trucks for one new , 1963 Brockway 260L ,
all wheel drive , with Heil HH11 low mount body and Frink Show
Plow Model 440SA , to be delivered at Dryden January 1 , 1963 ,
at a net price of $ 22 , 500 . 00 . Resolution seconded by Justice
Spaulding . Roll call vote , all voting YES .

The following resolution was received from the Planning Board :
" The Planning Board of the Town of Dryden , having given due .
consideration to the immediate problems confronting the Town
i ship , feel that the only means to effect long range control of
the growth and development in the Township is to implement a •
zoning ordinance .
Therefore , be it resolved that the Planning Board request
fthat the Town Board consider appointing a Board to study the
zoning problem with the aid of a professional planning con-
I sultant . "

Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that , in support of the resolution of
the Planning Board , the present Planning Board membership be
appointed to serve as a Zoning Commission to enter into a study
of the Zoning problem , with the present Chairman of the Planning

Board acting also as Chairman of the Zoning Commission . Resolu-
\tion seconded by Justice Hoagland . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that
Peter Curtiss of Etna be appointed to the planning Board , to fill
the vacancy created by the death of Rex Lumbard . Roll call
vote , all voting YES . .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that Justice . .
floaglandcberenabled to attend meetings of N . Y . S . Magistrates
Assn . at Kiamesha LakeSept . 13 to 15 , milegge to be paid by the
Town ; and that Hwy Supt Case be enabled to attend meetings of
Hwy Superintendents Assn . to be held in Elmira Sept . 19 through
21 . Motion carried and so ordered .

Hwy, . Supt . Case reported on a recent survey of the Town Highway
system , made by the N . Y . S . Highway Dept . The report included the
following totals ; of Town of Dryden highways by pavement type :
road mix 25 . 52 miles
gravel 60 . 94 miles
natural soils 26 . 58 miles
total 113 . 58 miles
Possibilities and plans for expanding and Improving facilities
at the highway garage were discussed , and will be studied further .

The next regular meeting will be October 3rd .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that the meeting
III be adjourned . Motion carried and so ordered . Meeting adjourned
at 11 : 15 p . m .
