January 3 , 1962
The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was called
to order at 8 p . m . by Supervisor Gridley . Present were Clm .
Baker and Saltonstall , Justice Hoagland , Hwy . Supt . Case , Assesor
Abrams . Absent : Justice Spaulding .
B id ; .: for Gradall was openned and referred to Highway Committee .
Town Historians report was read and placed on file ; as were
letters re : Annual Meeting of Association of Town * ; notice from
Public Service Commission re : Crispell Charter Service ' Inc . ;
and Dept . of Audit and Control .
. Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that
General bills totaling $464 . 75 be paid as audited . Roll call
vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Clm . Baker , •s'cconded by Justice Hoagland , that Highway
bills totaling $ 989 . 65 be paid as audited when funds are avail -
able . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that the monthly meetings of the Dryden
Town Board be held on the third day of each month . However , the
Town Board may set meeting dates inconsistent with the above ,
when deemed necessary . Seconded by Clm . Baker . Carried and so
ordered :
justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that mileage paid to Town officials ,
including election inspectors , shall be at the rate of per
mile , when using their own cars for Town purposes . Seconded
by Clm . Saltonstall . Carried and so ordered . .
Clm . Baker offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it re QQ � ed that Leona Fortner and Jane A . Gridley
be appointed Deputy�C rks . Seconded by Clm . Saltonstall .
Carried and so ordered .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that Jane A . Gridley be appointed
D eputy Supervisor . Seconded by Clm . Saltonstall . Carried and
so ordered .
Clm . Baker offered the following resolution and moved its adop -
tion : Be it resolved that Betsey L . Clark be appointed Town
H istorian for the year 1962 . Seconded by Clm . Saltonstall .
Carried and so ordered .
Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved
its adoption : Be it resolved that Lewis Gridley be appointed
to act as Service Officer for the year 1962 . Seconded by
Justice Hoagland . Carried and so ordered .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved
its adoption : Be it resolved that the salaries of the elective
and appointive officials of the Town of Dryden be paid at the
end of each Month , with the exception of the Councilmen , who
shall be paid at the end of each three months , and the Town
H istorian who shall be paid annually . This resolution is not
intended to include the Highway Superintendent , who shall be
paid from funds raised for highway purposes . Seconded . by
Clm . Saltonstall . Carried and so ordered .
Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved
its adoption ; Be it resolved that salaries of the Town Officials
be set for the year 1962 as follows :
Supervisor $ 1700 . 00
Clerk 2700 . 00
Deputy Clerk 1 . 50 per hour
Justice Hoagland 1200 . 00

Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it. . resolved that Town road #58 near the hamlet of
Etna between route 366 and County road 109 , a distance of approxi -
mately one Mile ,l be designated for permanent improvement at a cost
not to exceed. $ 6900 . 00 , and
Be it further resolved that tgis be done with machine type topping ,
width of travel Isurface to be 18 to 20 feet , and thickness approx-
imately tree inches .
Seconded by Justice Hoagland . Roll call vote , all present voting
YES • Absent : Justice Spaulding .
Moved by Clm . Baker , sdconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that the sum of
$ 18 , 000 . 00 shall be set aside to be expended for primary work and
general repairslupon 107 . 21 miles of town highways . Roll call vote ,
all present voting YES . Absent : Justice Spaulding .
The Highway Superintendent was instructed to check the intersections
of Chicahominy and W . Dryden Road , and of Monkey Run Road at the
approach to Hanshaw and Lower Creek Roads to determine the proper
signs to be placed at each respective corner .

Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that telephone tolls incurred by the
Justices of the ! Peace that are necessary for the conduct of their
legal business be a Town charge when certified . Resolution seconded
by Clm . Saltonstall . Carried and so ordered .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that if the Justices
need service of a secietary in the conduct of their legal business
it be a Town (Marge . Motion carried and so ordered .
The annual report of the Supervisor was placed on file with the
Town Clerk .
The next regular meeting will be Fenruary 6th .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , sedonded by Clm . Baker , that the meeting be
adjourned until �LJanuary 5th at 8 p . m .
January 5 , 1962
The adjourned meeting was called to order at 8 p . m . and recessed for
a meeting with the Planning Board . Meeting called to order again a
• at 10 : 30 p . m .

Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved
its adoption : Be it resolved that the Town of Dryden shall
accept State price for gasoline to be purchased for use in
Town equipment . Seconded by Clm . Baker . Carried and so
ordered .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution 'and moved
its adoption : Be it resolved that the Town of Dryden shall
accept State price for tires to be purchased for use on
Town equipment . Seconded by Clm . Baker . Carried and so ordered . r
Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that the Town of Dryden shall accept
S tate price f'arNthe purchase of pipe and culverts for Town
H ighway purposes . Seconded by Justice Hoagland . Carried and
so ordered .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved
its adoption : Be it resolved that Lewis Gridley be appointed
as delegate to the Association of Towns meeting to be held in
Buffalo on February 14 through 16 , and
Be it further resolved that the expenses of other Town
officials , including Justices , Councilmen , ' Assessor , Town Clerk ,
Highway Superintendent , Planning Board Chairman , and one con-
stable be paid from General Funds of the Town of Dryden .

Clm . Baker offered the following resolution and moved its
adoption : Be it resolved that the Supervisor be empowered to
obtain legal counsel as necessary . Seconded by Clm . Salton-
stall . Carried and so ordered .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and moved
its adoption : WHEREAS , there has been appropriated the sum of
$ 600 . 00 for the Southworth Library ,
Be it resoled that the Supervisor be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to pay said sum to the Southworth Library
upon receipt of a certified claim therefor . Seconded by Clm .
Saltonstall . Carried and so ordered .
Clm . Saltonstall suggested that n l effort be made to deter-
mine whether the Southworth Library can be a part of the Finger
Lakes Library Association .
The following nomination was offered for Assessor - Grant Abrams .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Clm . Baker , that the
nominations be closed `, and that the Town Clerk be instructed
to cast one ballot for Grant Abrams as Assessor . Roll call
vote , all present voting YES . Absent : Justice Spaulding .
Supervisor Gridley appointed the following committees : -
G eneral - Saltonstall and Spaulding
H ighway - Hoagland and Baker
Buildings and Grounds - Spaulding and Hoagland
Review of assessments - entire Town Board
Reporting for the Highway committee , Justice Hoagland recommended
that the Town Board accept the bid of A . L . Barnum for one used
Gradall at a cost of $ 5250 . 00 , and so moved . Seconded by Clm .
Baker . Roll call vote , all present voting YES . Absent -
Justice Spaulding .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution : Be it re -
solved that as recommended by the Highway Superintendent the
salary range for Highway Dept . employees be as fellows : 4 men
at $ 1 . 80 per hour ; 3 men at $ 1 . 85 per hour ; 1 man at $ 1 . 90 per
hour ; extra help - rate shall not exceed $ 1 . 70 per hour . Reso -
