July 5 , 1960
The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was called to
o rder by Supervisor Gridley at 8 : 00 p . m . Present were Justice
H oagland , Councilmen Baker and Saltonstall , Highway Dupt . Beach ,
Assistant Highway Supt . Case , Assessor Abrams , and guest , Mr . Lloyd Hart ,
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that Highway bills
totaling $ 8421 . 17 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that General
bills totaling $ 848 . 67 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting
YES .

Hwy . Supt . Beach reported that the Erwin plan has been extended forrk j -_ ' •. +
ten years; r _; _ r . Plans should be made as to which roads might be
u sed in this program so that they can be set by next April . Various
. possibilities were discussed , including the problem of Baker Hill
Road , the extension of Mill Street out of Freeville to the West
Dryden Road , and the east end of Malloryville Road . Suggestion also
was made that the planting of evergreens as a snow barrier on Mt .
P leasant Road be considered . It was agreed that all this thinking
should be put together for the next meeting .
Hwy . Supt . Beach also advised that application must be made hyNovember
1960 for topping of Erwin roads built up to 1957 . He also reported
that request has been made for the Town to cut some large maples along
L ower Creek Road in Etna . This will be difficult because of the size
o f the treet and their proximity to utility lines .
Regarding dust dontrol , Hwy . Supt . Beach reported that they are using
clacium , which costs $ 35 per ton , with two tons servicing one mile .
The next regular meeting will be Wednesday , August 3rd at 8 : 00 p . m .
Grievance Day will be July 12th , starting at 10 : 00 a . m .
Supervisor Gridley read the requests from the fire companies for their
new contracts . They bring up problems of request xfor increased pay-
ments to the companies , and of whether a fire protection distrtcht can
be divided . It was agreed that effort be made to determine what other
towns may be doing on similar problems , and of the legal aspects .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that the
meeting be adjourned . Motion carried and so ordered .

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that . General
bills totaling $ 291 . 34 an " be paid as audited . Roll call vote ,

Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that highway
bills totaling $ 2358 . 77 be paid as audited . Roll call Vote , all
voting YES .

Material from the Tompkins County Health Dept , regarding rat control
was read and placed on file .
Inasmuch as Mrs . . Hazel Neigh has not answered communications regarding
her appointment as Democratic election inspector in District 1 , it 'is
assumed that she does not wish to serve , thus leaving a vacancy in '
that district . And; inasmuch as Mrs . Patricia Niemi and Mr . John
Ockay have declined appointment as Democratic election inspectors in
District 4 , two vacancies exist if that district . Letter from Mr .'
Chandler Morse suggesting names for these vacancies was read ( see
election file ) .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall that the
following appointments be made :to fill the vacancies :
D istrict 1 - Mrs . Frank Hanshaw
D istricj 4 - Mrs . Venia Ketola and Mrs . Ann Moravec.
Motion carried and so ordered .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , that election districts be combined for
registration days , the places of registration being as follows :
D istrict 1 - Varna Town Hall
D istricts 2 , 4 , qnd 6 - Freeville Village Hall
D istricts 3 and 5 - Dryden Town Hall - East Main Street
Motion seconded by Justice Hoagland . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that the
following polling places be designated for the coming year :
D istrict No . 1 - Town Hall , Varna
D istrict No . 2 - Houtz Hall , Etna
D istrict No . 3 - Village Hall , Dryden
D istrict No . 4 - West Dryden Church
D istrict No . 5 - Town Office , Dryden
D istrict No . 6 - Village Hall , Freeville
Roll call vote , all voting YES . II
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that notices of
registration and polling places should be published in the Ithaca
Journal , in addition to the Rural News . Notion carried and so ordered .
Clm . Saltonstall offered the following resolution and moved its adop -
tion : Be it resolved that $ 1300 . 00 be transferred from Highway .
Fund Item 2 to Highway Fund , Item 3 , heading " Machinery Repair . "
Motion seconded • by Clm . Baker . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
It was noted that the base has been placed on one portion of the
. Genung Road and the gravel top has been started . The topping of
Thomas Road probably will be completed in about two weeks .
Letter from Mr . Stanley Tsapis regarding Snyder Hill Court was read .
( See correspondence file ) Supervisor Gridley advised that when Mr .
Prince first offered the deed to this road , it was not accepted be -
cause some requirements as to culverts. , etco had not been met . The
road now has been approved as acceptable by the highway superintendent
