May 5 , 1958
The regular '! monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held
at the Town Clerk ' s Office , Na fia 5 , 1958 at 7 : 00 P . M .
Present were' : Supervisor Gridley , Justice4 , Spaulding , Whitford ,
Clm . Baker , Saltonstall , Hwy . ISpt . Beach , and Assessor Abrams .
The minutes of the April meeting were read for information .
Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that
the General bil1E totaling $ 272 . 58 , and the Youth Commission bills
totaling $ $ 120 . 00 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting Yes .
Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Clm . Baker thet the Hwy .
bills totaling $ 6 , 122 . 50 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting Yes
Yes .
Kenneth Ricev was present , appearing for the Village Board of
Freevillle , and made a request that the Town Board of Dryden join
with the Village Board of Freeville in presenting a joint resolution to
the County Board of Supervisors , requesting that Fall Creek- road
from the four corners in Freeville eastward to the Village of McLean
be changed from aluVillage and town and County road to a State road
as part of route 366 . No action was taken on the proposed resolution .
A request was received from Carol Cooper , asking for a gallon
of paint for the floor of the Wesj Dryden Church .
Moved by Clm ! Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding that we buy
a gallon of paint for the West Dryden Church . Roll call , all voting yes .
Supervisor Gridley reported that the Special Census , for the
Town of Dryden cost , was $ 1396 . 00 , and the total count was 6 , 768 .
Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that
$ 669 . 96 , be transferred from Contingent Fund to Special Census Rund .
- Roil call vote taken , all voting Yes .
A communication was read from the Freeville Fire Department ,
asking that the Town Board take the proper action that is necessary
to bring before the people the legalizing of Bingo in the Town of
Dryden7sThe Tompkins County Firemen ' s Convention is to be held in
Freeville , June 12th thru the 14th .
Moved by Olm . iSaltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding that
we answer the letter to the Freeville Fire Department gating that
invview of the fact that according to the law , it takesA40 days to
legalize Bingo , there isn ' t time for it to be in effect for their •
June Convention . Carried . •
Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by C1m , aSaltonstall , I/
that we advertise for bids for snow removal equipment , Bids to be
opened May 16 , at 84OOP . M . at Judge Spaulding ' s Ulffice . Specifications
may be seen at the Town Clerk ' s office . Roll call tote , all voting yes .

Hollow area requesting a 40 mile speed limit to be enforced .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Clm . Baker that the Town
Board of the Town of Dryden request the State Traffic Commission to
investigate the speed hazardifrom the Ithaca Town Line to the Junction
of the Ringwood , Ellis Hollow & Creek Road . Because of the increadedi
population and children on bicycles , it is requested that a 40 mile
speed limit be enforced . Roll call vote , all voting yes .

Election Inspectors be paid $ 1 . 00 an hour for the year 1958 .

Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding that
Supv . Gridley and Justice Whitford , be given the power to investigate
Department .car for the Assessdng Rocall vote , all voting Yes .
The next Board meeting will be held June 3 , at 7 : 30 P . M .
Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Spaulding that
this meeting adjourn to May 16 , at 8 : 00 P . M .

At an adjourned meeting the Town Board met at the home
of Justice Spaulding , May 16 , at 8 : 00 P . M .
Present were : Supv ' r Gridlay , Justices Spaulding , Whitford ,
Clm . Baker , Hwy . Spt . Beach , and J . C . Georg Representative , Thomas
Johnson . Only one bid received and opened from J . C . Georg Corp . Bid
in accordance with specifications amounted to $ 34 , 460 . 00
Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded ' by Justice Spaulding that
the Town Board purchase Walters Equipment as specified in bid of
J . C . Georg Corp . in amount of $ 34 , 460 . 00 , and finance same according
to law as approved by vote at the special election held April 14 , 1958 .

On motion by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Whitford ,
that the two bills for $6 . 00 each to Matthew Bender Co . be paid .
Roll call vote , all voting yes .
' Hwy . Supt . Beach suggested need for fire extinguishers .
Motion made by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
this meeting adjourn . Carried .
