The Regular Monthly Meeting of the Town Board of the
Town of Dryden was held at the Town Clerks Office on May 3 ,
I947 at 8 : 00 P . M .
Present were Supervisor Charles Downey , Hwy . Supt;
Stacey Beach and Justices Cornelius , Spaulding, Baker ,
' Hoagland • and Johnson;

The minutes of the meeting held on April 3 , 1947
were read for information - and the minutes of the neeting held
on April 16 , 1947 were - read and approved;
A motion was made by Justice Baker - and seconded by
Justice Cornelius that the General bills totaling $ 609'; 11
be payed as read . Carried by a roll call vote . All jastices
. voting Yes .
A motion was made by Justice Hoagland and seconded
by Justice Johnson that the Highway bills totaling $ 765 : 49
The payed as read . Carried by a roll call vote . All Justices -Yes:
- Supervisor Downey reported that the Lorraine shovel
which had been used by the Highway Dept . of the Town of Dryden
for many years had been sold to the Kilmer Construction Co:.
of Port Byron , N . Y . for the sum of .$ 2700® 00 :

A report was made on the settlement of the Judgement
the Town of Dryden held against the - Mullen property : The Board::
approved the payment which included the interest„; The payment
was made without protest; ' N .` ° 'a..... A_
The members of the Board discussed plans for a
definite program , to be put into effect as soon as possible , to
restore the historical old cemeteries of the. Town of Dryden;
A motion was made by Justice Johnson and seconded by
Justice Hoagland, that a public hearing should be held in regards
-to -the commbingng- Mf the- Tax Collectors- -office with the office of
the Town ClerkSI in the Town of Dryden. The notice of the
hearing to be published int the Tompkins Co . R4ral News and the,
Ithaca Journal . Said hearing to be held at the Freeville Fire
Hall , Freeville , N . Y . on May 13 ; I947 between the hours of_ 8 : 00
and 9 : 00 P. M. Carried and so ordered .
The next Regular meeting of the Town Board to be
held on June 34 1947 at 8 : 30 PA .

Justice An Johnson: presented the following resolution :
- - - RESOLVED.:- that the Office of Tax Collector of the
Town of Dryden be and hereby is abolished , the same to take
effect at the expiration of the term of office of the present
Collector on December 31 , I947 ;
Justice Johnson made the motion that the Resolution
be accepted , the motion was seconded by Justice Hoagland;

Justice Baker made a motion that Charles H . Newman
be impowered to act as Attorney for the Town of Dryden

Alvord Baker , Millard Hoagland and Ara Johnson ;
Supervisor Downey presiding .

read for information and the minutes of hte meeting held
on April 16 , I947 were read and approved ;
A motion was made by Justice Baker and seconded by Justice

Supervisor Downey reported that the Lorraine shovel which

the Town Clerks in the Town of Dryden. The Notice of the
Hearing to beppublished in the Tompkins County Rural News and
the Ithaca Journal . Said hearing to be held at the Freeville
Fire Hall , Freeville , N . Y . on May 13 , I947 between the hours
of 8 : 00 P . M. and 9 : 00 P . M . Carried and so ordered.
The next regular meeting of the Town Board to be held on
June 3 , I947 at 8 : 30 . P . M,

The Public Hearing Notice as published was read
at 8 : 05 P .M . on May 13 , 1947 at the Freeville Fire Hall ,
Freeville , N . Y .
. Supervisor Charles G . Downey acted as Chair-
man. All Justices were present also Charles H . Newman ,
County Attorney ; Chairman Downey with a few appropriate
remarks turned the meeting open to discussion; during
which time questions were asked- - - - - whether the Town
would save money and would the office of Tax Collector
be more efficiently conducted: Questions were answered
by Chairman Downey and the present Collector Joseph L;
Huntington:, legal questions were answered by Attorney
Newman . There being no opposition voiced against the
combining of the offices , it appeared that the general
concensus was for the combining of the office of the Tax
• Collector with the office of the Town Clerk;
The, Public Hearing declared adjourned at 9 : 00I' M
The Town Board of the Town of Dryden held a
Special meeting .- following the Public Hearing , , called to ,
order at 9 : I0 P . M . Supervisor Downey presiding
An Johnson presented the following
Resolution and moved its adoption ,
RESOLVED : that the office of the Tax. Collector
of the Town of Dryden be and hereby is abolished , the same
to take effect at the expiration of the term of office of
the present Collector on December 31 , 1947 he Town Clerk to act
as Collector at the same salary ;. Mown to pa all expense of. Town.
Clerks Off ; Seconded by fustice „ off, : Curried ;
• . Justice Baker made a motion that Charles H .
Newman be impowered to act as Attorney for the Town of
Dryden in the purchase and title of the West Dryden Church ,
seconded by Justice Spaulding : Carried and so ordered :
The motion to adjourn was made by Justice
Hoagland and Seconded by Justice Spaulding .
