3. Wall Street Ball Field Update
Dave Hicks was invited to give an update report on the "dirt" for the Nall Street ball field. Dave and Jennifer
met with Dave Taylor, Sales Rep. for Northern Nurseries, Inc. out of Cicero, NY. They provide professional turf
products. The approximate cost of $700 will cover: home plate prep completion to high level, pitcher mound
completion to high level, and bases completed to a lower level. This is for an "A" League size field (5 -6 -7
graders). Dave reported that the field fits the standard minimum size for an "A" league field. DRC will need to
attend a Village and Town Board meeting to give a status report and figure out the funding source.
Jennifer reported that she has been in contact with the Youth Conservation Corp. They are very interested in
building the bleachers/benches for this project — they needs funds and adults to cut dhe wood, etc.
Possible fund raisers for this project would be having a homerun wall with paid sponsor ads on the wall.
Matty suggested we be sure this project is feasible for the long -run before large amounts of money are
expended (i.e., parking availability, sewer smell, etc.). Discussion ensued that funds for the first year should only
be expended to stake the area safe and make sure the area works before larger funds arc expended.
NYSFG Pole still needs to be moved before the field can be played on. Bill keeps working on this contact.
Steve reminded the DRC that Kiwanis has already agreed to fund part (or all ?) of this project — so Kiwanis
should be contacted before the DRC presents to either the Village or Town Boards.
4. Bike -N -Hike
Gary MacDowell was invited to attend this meeting to give his presentation about the Bike -N -Hike fundraiser
for the Village Time Squares project. Gary was unable to attend so Jennifer gave a brief report on his behalf. The
Bikc- N-Hike is scheduled on Sat,, June 7, 2003 from 7:30am -Noon at Dryden Lake. For more info. on this event
and to rent a booth visit website: www.diydeti,fiy,orglhbike
54 Recreation Coordinator Report
Jennifer attended the NYS Conference in Long Island. Arrived too late to catch the first day wkshps. due to
bad weather and her ride canceling %2 hour before he was to pick her tip. Anyway, she felt the conference was
very good, she received a lot of good information. She wants to start a Nad. Youth Sports Coaches Assoc.
(NYSCA) Chapter in Dryden. This is one of the educational program with the Nat]. Alliance for Youth sports.
The egg hunt went well and was a lot of fun. Jennifer received many positive comments. Nepture lire Dept.
helped stuff eggs, did traffic control, and furnished the transportation for the bunny (rode in on the fire [nick
wearing a scatbelt). Specialty 'Trophy donated $150 to help offset the costs. Approx. 100+ children participated.
Pepsi Pitch- Hit -Run is still on for Sat., 4/26/03; loam; at three HS ball fields. An organizational meeting
with volunteers is scheduled tomorrow evening at 6pm at the Recreation Office. ;`Teed help to score, judge lines,
etc. Jennifer extended the invitation for help to DRC members.
6. Dryden Lake Update
Steve gave a quick update from the DEC for do's and don'ts at Dryden Lake. The 25 -year agreement is in
approximately the 7`h year — see Town Clerk for exact dates. The agreement allows just about anything within
reason and die DEC recommends we utilize the park more. We CAN build a dock. We CAN do boat rentals. We
CAN raise the level of the water or dredge the lake (dredging the lake would be a temporary solution and approval
would need to go through Albany — although it is usually not a big deal) (raising die level of water by approx. 2
feet would be enough to deepen the water so the weeds wouldn't grow as rampantly and this process would be
done by adding boards to the darn at the lake)
Matty stated that she has a video on outdoor fish /wildlifc /docks that she'll share %vith the DRC.
71 Mission & Goals
Made a few more updates based on input from the Bushnell's. Vicki asked that we revisit this topic at the next
meeting as she would like more time to digest the proposed draft. Agreed by all as the meeting time is depleted.
8. Future Meeting Topics
a. (May) Discuss the time of clay for the Monthly DRC meetings (does 7:30am on the 4't' Thursday still work ? ?)
b. (May) Mission/Goals
C, (July?) Dairy Day Rep, attend a future DRC meeting to see how the DRC could help promote new younger
folks to t4rleeY the Dairy Day Committee (Ann stated that the majority of the committee is senior citizens).
