August 21, 2000 -- Meeting Minutes
Present: Mike Almendinger, Tom Hatfield, Bill Finnerty, Stewart Gray, Steve Stellick,
Bob Slocum, Alice Green, Steve Woodard, Cande Carroll. The meeting was held at
Dryden High School
In addition present were Steve Woodard, AD of Dryden High School, Erik Hartz, Head
Football Coach, Dryden High School and Nancy Zahler of Ithaca College and the
Tompkins County Department of Youth Services.
Mike Almendinger called the meeting to order. The minutes were distributed and
accepted from the meeting of August 7.
OLD BUSINESS
Survey Forms. Alice asked if there had been any new surveys submitted, from Bob
Slocum of Kiwanis and Dave Hall.
NEW BUSINESS
Guest: Nancy Zahler, Tom Hatfield introduced Nancy Zahler of Ithaca College and the
Tompkins County Department of Youth Services. It has been discussed, the possibility
that an intern from Nancy's office could provide administrative assistance for the
Dryden Youth Commission; a total of 110 hours, shared with other projects. It was
discussed that the intern could possibly work tie Bob regarding the Facilities
Subcommittee.
Nancy also talked about the "Recreation Partnership —A Proposal for the Future, the
history of the Recreation Partnership as it exists today and why it should continue on.
There was discussion between Bob Steve Woodard regarding TC3 and TC3 Athletic
Director Mich McDaniel, and Jim Valentine, Recreation Director
Dryden High School Athletics. Mike Introduced Steve Woodard and Football Coach
Eric Hartz.. Eric spoke about the Dryden Football Program. His keynote: "The only way
we can be a strong force is through Support of the Community." His idea is to build on
® community and use "interdisciplinary coaching to our advantage."

Coaches Clinics. Stewart brought up the issue of Coaches Clinics and providing more
of them, and asked Alice about the availability of referee clinics through the Ithaca
Youth Bureau.
"Yellow Card" Parent Disciplinary Concept. Stewart also brought up the issue of
dealing with difficult parents. Steve mentioned the use of a "Yellow Card" system such
as that used by Cazenovia in their soccer program. Steve pointed out that education of
parents is an important element in this regard.
"Meet the Team." Eric announced that on August 31, the Dryden Football Program
was sponsoring a "Meet the Team" evening at the High School. The Chicken Barbeque
format, from 5:30 - 8:00 would feature the Football team and cheerleading team.
Web Site and Brochure. Mike put forth discussion and an update of the Dryden
Recreation Commission web site and brochure update. He distributed copies of the
database. Steve Woodard mentioned that information about Dryden High School
athletic programs, including some schedules and match results is available on the
school's website: www. Dryden Schools, com .
Cande reported that the internet domains DrydenRec.com, DrydenRecreation.com,
DrydenRec.org, Dryden Recreation.org are all available. She said she would send Tom
a note regarding costs to register the domain and host the web site at the local
Lightlink. ISP. Several rough layouts for Recreation Commission logo ideas were
passed around for initial review.
Pool Facility Use. Before the meeting ended, Steve Woodward indicated that he would
like to discuss expanded use of the school's swimming facility.
Meeting Dates through End of 2000. The Dryden Recreation Commission will
continue to meet at Viking Lanes, Mondays 8:00 am - 9:00 on Sept 11 25, October 16
and 30, Nov. 13 and 27 and Dec. 11.
The meeting was adjourned.
