July 10, 2000 -- Meeting Minutes
Present. Torn Hatfield, Bill Finnerty, Bob Slocum, Alice Green, Steve Stellick, Cande Carroll
Alice distributed transcribed copies of the Wish List that resulted from Dairy Day The
minutes of the meeting of June 19 were distributed and moved to be approved.
Alice mentioned that we should also distribute copies of minute to the Village of Freeville and
the Village of Dryden
Steve provided a listing of forty-four groups who have used school building facilities. Bill
mentioned that this list fails to include and of the senior programs that wouldn't be normal
users of the school facilities. The commission members used the facilities use listing to discuss
how to get additional information on the listed groups and their programs. Regarding the
formation of a Facilities Subcommittee, other names were suggested: Daniel Karig, Steve
Woodard and Larry Hinkle.
It was suggested that in the even any of the Dryden Recreation Commission is unable to attend
a scheduled meeting that he or she should notify another member so that meetings can start
promptly without waiting for the absentees to arrive.
It was also suggested that a vice chairperson be appointed who would conduct meeting in the
event that the chairman is unable to attend, as well as handle other responsibilities when the
chairperson is unavailable. Bob Slocum was nominated and his nomination was seconded.
As of the last meeting where the commission members brainstormed groups to be included in
the first Recreation listing, only one survey had been returned. There was discussion of the
various individual groups listed, and others that weren't — with special attention given to new
groups that commission members knew about such as "youth lacrosse" mentioned by Bob,
"youth field hockey" discussed by Alice and and "youth volleyball," which Steve mentioned
got started with 2 phone calls and is now a school program. Cande suggested a section in the
directory and web site exclusively for new programs that people would like to get started.
It was suggested that Cande e-mail a request to Steve Woodard that the comnuission needs a
list of all the school programs for the Recreation Corrunission's directory, that would include
all of the pertinent information about the groups including when sign -ups are for each activity.
That having that information as part of our directory will be a way to get kids active and
participating across the school district. These would include Club through Varsity recreational
activities.
The Commission had originally set a deadline for July 15. But the PSAs are going to run at
least through July 31.
Steve mentioned again that it was Dr. Frank Baldwin of fine Tree Road was the enthusiast
responsible for getting th.e Field Hockey group going, through the American Field Hockey
Association. There was discussion about the huge Marathon group, Alice mentioned that it
was Neal Belcher who contacted the Youth Bureau for lacrosse equipment. Steve mentioned
that the Town of Dryden generously loans equipment it has to various groups who need it
® because they may have no inventory of equipment. Inventory is kept in the town barn and is
easily accessible and well- organized.
It was decided that at the next meeting the commission would coordinate the database with
the minimal information: Name, Group, Phone and Email information.
The meeting was adjourned.
