DANBY FIRE DISTRICT
MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
October 21, 2024
Commissioner Westmiller called the special meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners to order at 7:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:
Commissioner Faehndrich moved to approve the minutes for the October 14, 2025, regular meeting minutes with 3 revisions. Motion
seconded by Commissioner Griggs. Motion carried 4 yes 0 no.
Treasurer’s Report: NONE
APPROVAL OF BILLS:
Commissioner Westmiller moved to pay the vouchers as audited and approved on Operating Account Abstract 10-C, claims 247-251 in
the amount of $3,390.48. Motion seconded by Commissioner Freedman. Motion carried 4 yes 0 no.

CHIEF’S REPORTS:
WDFC:
• Per Secretary Gaden written report for July was received via email
DVFC: (Chief Gaden)
• Station usage: 11/07/25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Youth Service for family bingo night; 11/08/25 all day S. Gaden for baby
shower; 11/09/25 all day S. Gaden for birthday party; 02/07/26 all day N. Graham birthday party
• Leak in new apparatus bay behind 401, appears to be from heating system being turned on, asked if it could be looked a t
• 1443 is past due on inspection, he let Chief McCray and 2nd Asst Chief Wendt know.
Commissioner Freedman moved to accept the station usage on 11/07/25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Youth Service for family bingo
night; 11/08/25 all day S. Gaden for baby shower; 11/09/25 all day S. Gaden for birthday party; 02/07/26 all day N. Graham birthday
party. Motion seconded by Commissioner Griggs. Motion carried 4 yes 0 no.

BUILDING/GROUNDS:
• Chief Gaden reported the women’s toilet at West Danby has been running non -stop. Need a plumber to look at it. Decision to
ask the plumber to come look at the problem.
• Chief Gaden reported Danby’s gear washer was installed.
• Com. Faehndrich reported he spoke to Don Schaufler, arborist, about the pine tree in front of Danby Station. Mr. Schaufler will
come and look at it.

TECH:
• Commissioner Faehndrich discussed the different monthly service plans offered for the internet service at West Danby Fire
Station.
Commissioner Freedman made a motion to amend the resolution to move up to $4,000.00 from Contingency Account to General
Operating Account for the materials and installation of Starlink and network at West Danby Fire Station to up to $5,600.00. Motion
seconded by Commissioner Griggs. A roll call vote was taken: Anderson: absent; Faehndrich: Aye; Freedman: Aye; Griggs: Aye an d
Westmiller: Aye. Resolution adopted Resolution declared duly adopted and approved.
TRUCKS:
• Invitation to attend 10/28/25 meeting was sent to West Danby’s 1421 Truck Committee.
TOWN BOARD: NONE

POLICY:
• Lengthy discussion on the draft of the policy titled “A Policy Affirming the Danby Fire District’s Commitment to the
Protection, Inclusion, and Well-Being of All Persons in the District, and Clarifying Its Role in Federal Civil Enforcement
Matters.” Decision made to have the Secretary ask attorney Butler’s opinion as best way to write a policy like this and if it
necessary to have a policy

BUDGET:
Commissioner Freedman moved to adopt Resolution 2025-10-21.2 adopting the 2026 budget for $611,000.00 staying within the Tax
Cap Levy as presented at the Public Hearing on October 21, 2025. Commissioner Griggs seconded. A roll call vote was taken.
Commissioner Anderson: Absent; Commissioner Faehndrich: Aye; Commissioner Freedman: Aye; Commissioner Griggs: Aye and
Commissioner Westmiller: Aye. Resolution declared duly adopted and approved .

RESOLUTION TO TRANSFER MONEY
FROM
CONTINGENCY ACCOUNT A3410.9
TO
H3410-12 ACCOUNT
RESOLUTION 2025-10-21.1
WHEREAS The Danby Fire District has established a Contingency Account A3410.9 and has funds
available;
WHEREAS at the Board of Fire Commissioners meeting on October 14, 2025 it was approved to transfer
up to $4,000.00 from the Contingency Account A3410.9 into H3410.12 Account to pay Computer Room to install
Starlink and create at network at the West Danby Fire Station.
WE RESOLVE to increase the amount to transfer from up to $4,000.00 to $5,600.00 from Contingency
Account A3410.9 into H3410.12 Account to pay Computer Room to install Starlink and create a network at the
West Danby Fire Station and to pay for necessary hardware.
Commissioner Freedman moved, Commissioner Griggs seconded, and adopted by the following vote:

Commissioner Freedman Aye
Commissioner Griggs Aye
Commissioner Westmiller Aye
The foregoing resolution was thereupon declared duly adopted and approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners
on October 21, 2025.

RESOLUTION OF THE DANBY FIRE DISTRICT
TO ADOPT THE 2026 BUDGET
2023-10-21.2
RESOLVED, that pursuant to Town Law 181, the Danby Fire District adopts the 2026 budget for $611,000.00 staying within the Tax
Cap Levy as presented at the Public Hearing on October 21, 2025.
Commissioner Freedman moved, Commissioner Griggs seconded, and the Board of Fire Commissioners voted as follows:

Commissioner Faehndrich Aye
Commissioner Freedman Aye
Commissioner Griggs Aye
Commissioner Westmiller Aye
The foregoing resolution was thereupon declared duly adopted and approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners on October 21,
