March 6th, 2024
Meeting called to order at 5:00 pm by Ben Coakley
Attending: Ben Coakley, Marrell Cortright, Marie Monroe, Skip Fairchild, Peter McDonald, Scott
Wendt, Shawn Wendt, Marge Seamon, Katherine Hunter, Joel Gagnon
Guest: Brad Sick
Brad is here to discuss possible reasons why our customers in the water district that reside in
the middle of the system have brown water when no other customers have any issues. He
discussed water sampling, when is a good time and that additional testing taken certain times
might help pinpoint problems. Collecting a water sample when hydrants are flushed is a good
way to test for other minerals present in the water. He also suggested adding a sequestering
agent to the water system. Then discussed a little deeper about testing at hydrant flushing time.
We flush hydrants in May and October.
Skip made the motion to gather water samples from all four hydrants at flushing time in May.
This will incur extra water tests that we will have to pay for but it may give us answers. Peter
seconded this, all were in favor. (Either end of the line and raw water)
Vouchers -
Yaws - $50 - monthly water test
Amrex - $332.00 chlorine
Credit Charge - WHO water - $390.00 for classes for both Scott and Shawn for yearly operator
credits
Tompkins County Health permit - $200.00
Skip made the motion to pay the bills, Marie seconded the motion, all were in favor.
February meeting minutes were emailed to everyone. Are there any additions and corrections?
A motion was made by Skip to approve all the minutes, seconded by Marie, all Board members
approved.
Privilege of the floor - Joel - In order to decide what the town could do with the ARPA funds,
each department within the town should submit a wish list for the town board to consider.
Hydrants might be a good thing to spend funds on.
The MOU is held up at the Fire District lawyer still.
Operator Report -
Scott - Everything is running smoothly again. We are pumping around 13,000 gals a day used,
that is a good number.
Scott had to purchase some supplies - marking paint, light bulbs for the pump house. Tod
helped Caldwell's find the curb box at their rental unit at 25 Maple Ave. Scott had to buy black
iron pipe to raise the pipe up.
Scott did find two random curb boxes that we did not have on the map. We still need to order a
spare Chlorinator.
Water testing for Nitrates is coming up.
Old Business -
Billing Clerk - Marrell has been appointed by the town board as the billing clerk. She is still
shadowing Marge. The old printer that died needs disposed of. Marge would like Water Board
permission to recycle that. Marie made the motion and Skip seconded this motion. All were in
favor.
Peter would like more time to go over the original town resolutions that enacted/created the
West Danby Water district and its Board of Water Commissioners. He will bring it up next month.
New Business - The town of Danby is looking into upgraded GIS service. The Water district
could get on board with this program with the town to update our mapping program.
Marrell brought up that we need to buy a locking/secure mail box. Marie made the motion to go
ahead and purchase, Skip seconded this and all were in favor.
Shawn brought up that according to the 2024 tax rolls, the pump house is assigned house
number/mailing address of 46 Sylvan Lane. We will check with the Code Officer to make sure
that is the correct number.
Marge asked that by July's billing could we try and be moved to the Fire Station.
Go see Miriah - Peter and Marrell need updated in the town water listing.
The town is going to Microsoft 365 so emails may be more accessible when this happens for
board members who have poor or limited internet service.
Skip made the motion to adjourn, Marie seconded this and all were in favor.
Meeting adjourned at 6:44pm
Respectfully submitted,
Marrell Cortright
