The basics
Trained volunteers from Danby's Conservation
Advisory Council (CAC) can walk you through the
process of creating your easement. Our legal
template helps you conserve the characteristics of
your land you value most.
The CAC ensures (with your help, of course) that
these conservation values remain protected in
perpetuity — M.. eaning they run with the land,
unlike other methods that -might more easily be
undone. And though the Town holds the
easement, you retain title and ownership of the

What about my property's resale value?
Land protected by a conservation easement could
sell for more than land nearby.
What rights would I give up?
Only those you choose. At a minimum, conserva-
tion easements restrict residential development.
But you could add protections for farms, forests,
and more.

Would people have the right to entermyland?
Only if you want. Your property is still your own,
and except for annual visits by CAC stewards, only
those you allow would have access. But once you
factor in roadside views and rural character, others,
whether your neighbors or passersby, benefit even
so.
