PRELIMINARY
DANBY FIRE DISTRICT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
May 28, 2024
Commissioner Westmiller called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Call to Order
Pledge of Allegiance
Minutes: Preliminary minutes for May 14, 2024, regular meeting were forwarded to the Town Clerk for posting on the Town’s
website and posted on the Fire District’s website on May 28, 2024.
Commissioner Westmiller moved to approve the minutes of the May 14, 2024, regular meeting. Motion seconded by Commissioner
Faehndrich. Motion carried 3 yes 0 no.
Treasurer’s Report:
• Transferred $25,000.00 from Apparatus account to NYCLASS
• Castle Cleaners cancelled service
• Brooktondale contract needs to be renewed
Commissioner Freedman moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion seconded by Commissioner Westmiller. Motion carried 3
yes 0 no.
Approval of bills:
Commissioner Faehndrich made a motion to pay the vouchers as audited and approved on Operating Account Abstract – 5-C claims
128-136 in the amount of $66,611.43. Motion seconded by Commissioner Freedman. Motion carried 3 yes 0 no.

CHIEF’S REPORTS:
DVFC: (Chief Gaden)
• Station Usage Requests: Democratic Party July 25th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m..
• Request to purchase Docusign for the District for $185.00/year so he can sign training forms for members electronically.
• The 5 minitors and 5 extra chargers are in.
• Old dishwasher is uninstalled. Will order the new from B&W
• Boiler has an issue; it is stuck on heat. Has been shut down and will need to be fixed before it is turned back on in the Fall.
• New flagpole is in.
• Received a phone call from a concerned citizen regarding a member of West Danby and claiming the person was driving
recklessly. Chief McCray will speak to the individual and was reminded to document everything.
Commissioner Westmiller to accept station usage as follows: July 25th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. by the Democratic Party. Motion
seconded by Commissioner Faehndrich. Motion carried 3 yes 0 no.
Commissioner Westmiller moved to accept Jeremy Andrews as a new member pending a physical. Commissioner Faehndrich
seconded. Motion carried 4 yes 0 no.
WDFC: (Chief McCray)
• HSC came and serviced the units at West Danby.
• Dovi Motors found a 2nd key for 1443. Chief Gaden will pick it up.
• 1443 is at Admiral Specialty Vehicles for the remaining work to be done.
• 1401 Admiral Specialty Vehicles still needs to do work on it.
• 1421 Ward’s is scheduling a time to repair the leaking valve. He will get estimate and forward it.
COMMITTEES:
PURCHASING: NONE
BUILDING/GROUNDS:
• Commissioner Westmiller reported the driveway to and around the fuel shed at West Danby Fire Station and the apron in
front of the Danby Station were repaired by the Town of Danby Highway Department. The Commissioners asked a thank
you note be sent.
• Commissioner Westmiller will follow up with the Town’s Supervisor, Joel Gagnon, to see what the status is of the Renewal
and Ratification of Prior Shared Usage Agreement.
• Commissioner Westmiller has contacted a company to help put a spec package together for replacing the boiler at the Danby
Station.
• Chief Gaden reported the smell in the apparatus bay is back. Is going to back flush the drains.
• Commissioner Westmiller reported he met with Jason Demarest at the West Danby Station to go over the completion of the
West Danby renovation and ask about help in compiling a spec package for replacing/repairing the floors at West Danby
Station and the concrete in the apparatus bays at both stations. Jason is going to write up specs.
• Commissioner Freedman will talk to a pavement company about writing up a spec package for the repair of the apron at
Danby Station.

TECH:
• Chief Gaden reported the Computer Room is still waiting on the part to complete the work.
• West Danby is included in with the Tompkins County Broadband
TRUCKS:
• Chief McCray reported he is working with the County to get a mobile for the new 1443.
TOWN BOARD: NONE

POLICY: NONE
MEMBERSHIP/TRAINING:
• Physicals are June 24th. Members must sign up with the District Secretary
LONG RANGE PLAN: NONE

BUDGET:
• Workshop to follow.
OLD BUSINESS: NONE
NEW BUSINESS:
• JAAG Pest Control has been contacted several times and has not been to either station since September. Treasurer Hart will give a copy of
the last invoice to Secretary Gaden so a request for proposals can be drafted.
• Attorney Butler will be retiring the end of 2025. Brief discussion held.
APPROVALS of TRAININGS, ITEMS OR SERVICES TO BE PURCHASED:
Commissioner Westmiller made a motion to approve the purchase of a yearly subscription with Docusign for the District at the cost
of $185.00 a year. Motion seconded by Commissioner Faehndrich. Motion carried 3 yes 0 no.
Commissioner Freedman made a motion to approve the purchase of 1 pair of boots from Fire End up to $360.00. Request made by
Chief Gaden. Motion seconded by Commissioner Faehndrich. Motion carried 3 yes 0 no.
Commissioner Faehndrich made a motion to approve Chief Gaden attending the commissioner training at the New York State
Chief’s Show on June 12th up to $150.00 for registration fee. Motion seconded by Commissioner Westmiller. Motion carried 3 yes
0 no.
