• DANBY PLANNING BOARD ,
February 14 , ' 1968
The regular meeting of the Danby Planning Board was held at
Marge Epp ' s home on the above date . .
Members present : Mildred Weitzel , Herbert Muzzy , Wendell
Bryce , Joe . Short , Marge Epp
The Town Board minutes of January 14th were read . . Minutes
of the last two meetings of the Planning Board were read ( Oct .
19th and Dec . 13th ) . Motion made by Herbert Muzzy that they be
accepted as read , seconded by Mrs . Weitzel .
Situation on land fill discussed on position of Town Board
reversing the action on same , because of petition .
Mr . Muzzy reported that in talking with Mr . Liguori , it may
be several years before action will be taken on Sanitary Land
Fill . He talked about Landstrom taking over with gravel fill ,
however , roads will not take heavy loads . Possibly an exchange
agreement with Landstrom could be worked out . . Mr . Short , Dr .
Bryce , and Mr : Muzzy are going to look at the present dump when
weather breaks . The agreement between Town Board and Bartholf
discussed . During the discussion , there was much concern in
evidence about the indecisive handling of the Autosalvage property .
It was also felt that zoning regulations should be enforced in
regard to Kouf and Johanson properties .
There is a possibility of a gas line in the Town of Danby
and Mr . Lacy of the Gas and Electric Corp . . will be in touch with
Harry Hatfield about a petition which would include the thinking
of the people of Danby on the use of gas , also water and sewage .
The Planning Board so moves that such a petition be forthcoming .
Mrs . Epp reported that she had attended the Town Board
meting and reported the representatives from Elec . & Gas Corp .
said that : . .
1 . They would pay for all the main lines in town and
first 100 ft . through the property. , beyond that point
approximately $ 3 . 00 a foot cost to landowner .
2 . Conversion from oil burner to gas would be approximately
$ 150 . 00 .
3 . They have to be guaranteed 90 customers to provide this
service . .
Dr . Bryce reports on the possibility of getting sidewalks in
Danby . Sidewalks can be put on state property behind ditches .
They can be installed by two methods : a ) Town Board can mandate . .
a sidewalk and assess accordingly ; b ) people can get petition up
and " interested persons " concerned divide the cost . He moves
that the Town Board not approve sidewalks at this time , seconded .

Mrs . Epp read the attached letter which was sent to the Town
Board .

At a Planning Board Meeting held February 14 , 1968 , it was
unanimously agreed to send the following letter to Jim Cortright ,
Dr . Broad , and Harry Hatfield :
Dear
Several months ago the Tompkins County Health Department
stated the back half of the Town Hall property was contaminated
by surface sewage from the property next door . Since that
time , the situation hasn ' t improved .
' .,J6.1It would seem that these buildings are physically unsafe
as well as a public health hazard . Our recommendation is
that the Town Board , the Building Commissioner and the
County Health Department investigate the properties and
submit a written reply to the Planning Board as soon as
possible .
We , as a group , are not only concerned about the health
hazards involved , but also with the appearance of the center
of what could well be a very attractive hamlet .

ARTICLE V . , Section 503 - change building floor area to
provide for not less than 1 , 000 square feet total enclosed floor
area .
ARTICLE X . , Section 1001 , under the paragraph Building
Permit , strike the word principal and under Fees insert , in the
second sentence , after the word work , in the judgment of the
zoning officer . Under Section 1003 , Board of Appeals , insert
the words after articleXVl , of the Town Law of the State of New
York . .
ARTICLE X . , Section 1001 - add, except any farm building
not to include farmhouse .
ARTICLE IX . , Section 901 - add , except that re -establish-
ment of Land for farm use in areas used for farming prior to the
enactment of this ordinance shall not be affected by this
Section .
