TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
August 10 , 1967
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby was
held at the Town Hall , Thursday , 8 : 00 P . M . , August 10 , 1967 .
Board members present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Councilmen
Donald Barber and Donald Makie , Justices
Floyd Dorn and Moses Peter .
Others present : Donald Burdick , Mr . and Mrs . Doyle Webber , Ted
Merritt , Ralph Wilbur , Alfred Schoneman , George
Clarkson n Mrs . Joan Stewart .

JMM�IVIC meeting were read and approved .
1 . Minutes of the Planning Board Meeting July 26 , 1967 .
2 . Department of Health re : Proposed Sanitary Land Fill Site .
From Ithaca Agency re : Danby Day Camp Accident Insurance .
4 . Telegram re : Sale of Lottery Tickets .
" PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR
Justice Peter asked that on agenda be the use of Town Hall for
holding Justice Court .
Donald Burdick asked about obtaining -school zone signs and
children at play signs for Gunderman Road . Supervisor advised
clerk to write the County Highway Superintendent on procedure of
° obtaining " School Zone " signs on Gunderman Road which is a town
road , and ask advice on " Children at Play " signs .
George Clarkson asked why no immediate action on letter
received at the July meeting from the Community Council .
Supervisor answered that letter was given to Highway Superin-
tendent and he has returned letter . Cortright said there is a road
resigning program in progress , and asked clerk to check with the
Highway Superintendent his findings on Community Council letter ,
if Troy and Nelson Roads and Nelson and Miller Roads are signed ,
and what road signs are missing . Ernie Cole has Nelson road sign .
Donald Burdick reported 125 + children in youth program . Might
° warrant in future having a paid director . Supervisor answered
Town Board will be glad to budget for this if needed .
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Highway - None
Zoning - Makie has been in contact with Greater Ithaca Regional
Planning people re : zoning ordinance in relation to map - -
question with enforcement again . Discussion on trailer
sales . Is our ordinance permissive or must we list
specific exclusions ?- - - to be asked of the lawyer .
Eakie made the motion that a letter from the Town Board tell
Mrs . Margery Treat , operator of Rolling Homes Sales , that the west
side of Rte 96B is not zoned commercial in the vicinity of Muzzy
Road . If she wants something other than residential , needs either
to gain variance from the Appeals Board or submit a proposal for
a planned development district to the Town Board ( Word like BI of
the Zoning Ordinance ) Seconded by Peter.

Fire - Donald Barber reported , none . George Clarkson said the
firementbu±ned a house for Jolles . 3 more monitors have
been added . Cortright asked about brush piled up at Jennings
Pond - being burned . George said this will be done .
Cemeteris - Dorn reported Huttunen is working on Peter Cemetery .

Jennings Pond = total swimming has doubled , ends on Labor Day .
Dike - probably in need of dress each year .
Troy Road Junkyard and Sanitary Land Fill - Supervisor Cortright
reported of the opposition from people who live near proposed
sanitary land fill site and conceded the Town Board would not
go ahead until group of residents make their alternative
recommendation to the Planning Board . Peter wants to wait
until next Board meeting to see if this group comes up with
an alternative , if not then proceed . Discussion followed on
town collection .
West Danby Water District - Supervisor reported Water Resources
Commission did approve -the District and waiting report from
the Department Of Audit and Control .
West Danby Recreation Area - Milton Todd is working through the
Community Council for a ball diamond . Wesley Locke says 410
property is for sale , has not price yet .
NEW BUSINESS
Mrs . Webber asked -about speed zone sign to the pond . Discussion .
Supervisor will speak to Bob Simpkins . Youth Program - $ 150 . 00
short as far as instructors concerned .
Makie moved to appropriate p150 . 00 .�- . from the Contingency Fund to
the Youth Program . Seconded by Peter . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
G eorge Clarkson presented a requisition plan from the Youth
Recreation Committee of the Community Council for another year .
S upervisor Cortright said the operation of Jennings pond has
proven and is working beyond the experimental stage and time the
Town of Danby assume the full responsibility and support the
costs . Jim asked for a commitment from Town B and to pick up
Youth Recreation needs in the Fall 1967 budget . Unanimously
agreed . Community Council will recruit personnel .
Lottery Tickets - Peter made the motion to decline offer to sell
Lottery Tickets . Seconded by Makie . 5 ayes ,
0 noes , carried .
Reply from Osadchey - Supervisor reported a reply received from
Osadchey and turned over to Neil Nelson .
A possibility the Citizen ' s Group through
Farmers Home Administration may qualify .
Town Hall Use for Hiding Justice Court - Justice Peter explained
that starting September 1st , Justices will have to hold court
one night a week at the Town Hall . Need for a key to Town
Hall and some files or cupboards for docket books , etc . The
present cupboard will be used and two padlocks to be purchased
plus two keys to the Town Hall .

Peter suggested the Clerk wirte to Leon Oltz and George Hovanec
welcoming their businesses to the Town of ' Danby . Unanimously agreed .
Makie asked for attention to be given a mower for town highways .
A meeting with the Highway Superintendent was sheduled for
August 23 . 7 : 30 P . M . at the Highway Barns .

Jury List - Supervisor and assessors to meet August 15 , 8 : 00 P . M .
with Clerk to make up Jury List for 1967 - 68 .
General Fund Bills - Peter moved to pay General- Fund Bills # 88
through # 105 as listed on Warrant # 8 totalling $ 1 , 547 . 11 .
Seconded by Dorn . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
H ighway Fund Bills = Barber moved to pay Highway Fund Bills # 72
through # 82 as listed on Warrant # 8 totalling $ 1 , 617 . 31 . Seconded
by Dorn . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried . -
