TOWN OF DANDY PLANNING BOARD
SPECIAL MEETING
April • 15 , 1964 • -
SPECIAL MEETING A special meeting of the Town of Danby Planning Board
was held at 330 East State Street0 Ithaca0 New York on
Wednesday / April 150 1964 .
ATTENDANCE Members present were : Floyd Dorn0 Fred Thayer0 Edward
Melchen0 Darwin Geuther0 and George McGrath .
Also present were : H . Stillwell Brown of the Greater
Ithaca Regional Planning Board and George McKnight of
the New York State Department of Commerce .
CALL TO ORDER . The meeting was called to order at 8 : 30 p . m . by Chairman
Melchen .
MINUTES Minutes of the March 310 1964 Regular Meeting and the
April 90 1964 Special Meeting were read by Chairman
Melchen . There being no corrections0 motion made and
carried to approve minutes as read .
DARBY GENERAL PLAN
Reports McGrath reviewed his report made to the Danby Town Board
on April 20 1964 regarding :
1 . Reading of Planning Board minutes and discussion
thereof 0
2 . Presenting Planning Board ° s formal resolution as to
the recommended disposition of Auto Salvage of Ithaca ° s
operation as a junk yard on Nelson Road and discussion
thereof .
Brown outlined his discussion with the Danby Town Board
as of April 2 , 1964 . regarding town dumps within Danby .
The following points were covered :
1 . New York State Sanitary Code regulations are becoming
more stringent as to waste disposal .
2 . Future location of Danby ° s town dump depends on such
land characteristics as : drainage , non-residential
area , topography0 etc .
• 3 . Several tentative dump sites are being considered .

Denby General
Appearance McKnight informed the Planning Board of a possible
method by which Danby ° s general appearance could be
cleaned up . The Town Board could adoptobv resolu-
tion ,, the New York State Housing Code and designate
the County Health Department to administer ?'_t. . Most
of the funds necessary to administer the code could
be paid for by the State Health Department .
The Regional Planning Board will be advised of this
at its next meeting and be requested to determine
the feasibility of ouch an approach .
Town DUMP Brown reviewed several sites as to the future lotation
Site of the town dump . . Very detailed discussion followed .
A motion was made that two of the five dump sites
recommended by the Regional Planning Board should be
considered by the Danby. Planning Board for investiga -
ticn to determine ownership and assessed valuation .
Seconded and carried .
Questionnaire results of the Denby Questionnaire were discussed by
Brown . To date , . 3. 9... 5% returns have been received
which is extremely -favorable for this type of project .
Specific replies were analyzed by Brown regarding in-
dications by the town as to zoning , planning , town ' s
general appearance , , shopping facilities , apartment
houses , recreation , . etc .
Brown indicated that after the cut off date , all replies
will be tabulated and processed on IBM equipment at
Cornell . The IBM listings will help the Regional Planning
Board in making a concise analysis :

COMMUNITY
COUNCIL Me ?chen discussed the forthcoming meeting of the Denby
Community Council . A representative of the Planning
Board has been invited by the Council to report at its
meeting as to the feasibility of a community building
within Denby .
Meichen will contact the Council Chairman as to securing
an invitation for a representative of the Regional Planning
Board .
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Board o
motion was made at 11 : 09 p . m . to adjourn . Seconded and
carried .
