SHOULD ANY OF THESAMPLES PROVE POSITIVE, CITY WATER & SEWER SHALL REPEAT THE DISINFECTING PROCESS AND ADDITIONAL SAMPLES WILL AGAIN BE COLLECTED FOR TESTING.CITY OF ITHACA SEWER MAIN AND APPURTENANCE NOTES:SCOPETHIS SECTION DESCRIBES THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR SEWER MAIN AND SERVICE DESIGN, PLANNING AND INSTALLATION.REFERENCES AND REGULATORY APPROVALSUNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY THE TOMPKINS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT (TCHD), SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEM PLANNING, DESIGN, INSTALLATION, AND TESTING SHALL FOLLOW TEN STATES STANDARDS. AT LEAST ANNUALLY, THE CITY WATER & SEWERDEPARTMENT WILL NOTIFY TCHD OF EACH PLANNED CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT WHICH WILL INCLUDE A BRIEF NARRATIVE OF THE PURPOSE AND INTENT OF THE PROJECT AS WELL AS AN APPROXIMATION FOR SCHEDULING. TCHD SHALL ALSO BE NOTIFIEDWHEN INSTALLATION OF REPLACEMENT MAIN IS COMPLETE. IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY MAIN REPLACEMENT, TCHD SHALL BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. SPECIFIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT PROJECT REVIEW AND APPROVAL BEYOND THIS INITIAL NOTIFICATIONSHALL BE REQUIRED IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS EXIST:1.ANY SEWER MAIN EXTENSION FOR WHICH THERE IS CURRENTLY NO COLLECTION SYSTEM INFRASTRUCTURE.2.ANY DESIGN INCREASE IN SEWER CAPACITY FOR WHICH TO SPECIFICALLY ACCOMMODATE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT, OR THAT WHICH IS ABOVE AND BEYOND MINIMUM CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS. FOR EXAMPLE, AN UPGRADE FROM AN 8” TO A 12”DIAMETER LINE IN ANTICIPATION OF FUTURE APARTMENT CONSTRUCTION WOULD BE REQUIRED FOR SUBMISSION TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR APPROVAL. HOWEVER, A STANDARD UPGRADE FROM A 6” CLAY TILE TO AN 8” PVC DIAMETER LINE TO REPLACEAGING INFRASTRUCTURE AND MEET A TYPICAL CONSTRUCTION STANDARD WOULD NOT BE REQUIRED FOR REVIEW. IN THIS CASE, THE STANDARD NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE DESCRIBED ABOVE WILL BE FOLLOWED.GENERAL PLANNING, DESIGN AND INSTALLATIONCITY WATER & SEWER ENGINEERING STAFF PROVIDE FOR THE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF ALL SEWER RELATED INFRASTRUCTURE. A TYPICAL ENGINEERING PROFILE IS DEVELOPED IN PROJECTS WHERE EXCESSIVE SLOPE IS ANTICIPATED, WHERE THE LAYOUT ORNUMBER OF EXISTING OR PROPOSED UNDERGROUND UTILITIES COULD BE CAUSE FOR CONCERN OR INTERFERENCE, OR IF THE PROJECT IS WORKING CLOSELY WITH OTHER DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY. SANITARY PROJECTS LOCATED IN AREASOF MINIMAL SLOPE DO NOT TYPICALLY REQUIRE AN ENGINEERED PLAN PROFILE AND ARE INSTEAD GUIDED CAREFULLY IN THE FIELD BY SURVEY TEAMS.CITY WATER & SEWER CONSTRUCTION CREWS INSTALL COLLECTION SYSTEMS AND SERVICES AT OR BELOW FROST DEPTH (TYPICALLY A MINIMUM OF 4.5’ BELOW THE SURFACE) WITH CARE TO ENSURE THAT AT LEAST 10’ OF PARALLEL SEPARATION FROM OUTSIDEWALL TO OUTSIDE WALL OF ANY EXISTING OR PROPOSED WATER MAIN IS ACHIEVED. IN CASES WHERE IT IS IMPRACTICAL TO MAINTAIN 10’ OF SEPARATION, THE TOMPKINS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT WILL BE CONSULTED TO REVIEW A WAIVER OF THE RULEON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS.SEWER MAINS CROSSING WATER MAINS SHALL BE LAID TO PROVIDE A MINIMUM VERTICAL DISTANCE OF 18” BETWEEN THE OUTSIDE OF THE SEWER MAIN AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE WATER MAIN.SPECIFICATIONS REGARDING MATERIAL, TRENCHING, BEDDING, SERVICES, AND GENERAL APPURTENANCE INSTALLATION MAY BE FOUND ON THE DETAIL SHEETS
