Provide for exterior lighting underground branch circuits and where called for. c. Sunlight resistant. B. Knockouts not allowed. Punch hole openings where required. C. Fittings and Accessories: Include covers, couplings, offsets, elbows, expansion joints, adapters, hold-down straps, end caps, and other fittings to match and mate with wireways as required for complete system. D. Wireway Covers: Hinged type unless otherwise indicated. E. Finish: Manufacturer's standard gray enamel finish. 2.4 SURFACE RACEWAYS A. Listing and Labeling: Surface raceways and tele-power poles shall be listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application. B. Surface Metal Raceways: 1. Enameled steel type, size and type as called for. 2. Manufacturers standard fittings, all by the same manufacturer and designed to be used together. Where pre-wired multioutlet systems are required, provide 125 VAC, 15 ampere grounding receptacles on 18 inch centers unless otherwise noted on Contract Drawings. 4. Provide pre-punched snap on covers as required. 5. Provide couplings, device plates, blank end fittings, entrance and wall box connectors, elbows, breakers, wire clips, etc., to make a complete job. 6. Provide a divider where required. 7. Manufacturers: a. Pre-wired multioutlet system application: Wiremold 2000, ivory finish. b. Twi-piece multiple channel application: Wiremold V6000 series, ivory finish. C. Surface Nonmetallic Raceways: 1. Non-metallic, size and type as called for. 2. Manufacturers standard fittings, all by the same manufacturer and designed to be used together. 3. Provide pre-punched snap on covers as required. 4. Provide couplings, device plates, blank end fittings, entrance and wall box connectors, elbows, breakers, wire clips, etc., to make a complete job. 5. Provide a divider where required. 6. Manufacturer: a. Wiremold: Two-piece single channel application; Wiremold 400 series, ivory finish. b. Hubbell: Multichannel raceway application: Wiremold 5400 series, ivory finish. D. Tele-Power Poles: 1. Heavy gage extruded aluminum construction. 2. Two channel design, one for communications and the other for 120 VAC power, at checkout stands, where noted on contract drawings, or as required; single channel design at gondolas wherever possible. 3. All extrusions shall be finished in fade resistant, baked-on acrylic paint and shall be black in color. a. All checkout register locations to be furnished by Owner and installed by Contractor. b. All other power poles shall be furnished and installed by Contractor. c. Black color at café checkout register location to be provided by Contractor. 4. Total length shall be 13’-6”, verify exact height with cable tray height as shown on drawings. 5. Provide all hardware necessary for a complete installation. 6. Make: a. Hubbell. b. Wiremold. 2.5 OUTLET, JUNCTION, AND PULL BOXES A. Type: 1. Provide galvanized, stamped steel products when recessed in construction or exposed on ceilings in dry areas. Provide condulet style for exposed work in damp or wet locations. 3. Provide 14-gauge galvanized steel for pullboxes over 30-inch dimension in any direction. a. Fold and weld construction. b. Provide 14-gauge galvanized steel cover secured in place by galvanized sheet metal screws on maximum 10-inch centers. c. Cut edges to be free of burrs. d. Size shall comply with NEC for configuration used, unless larger size is called for. 4. Provide cast iron, gasketed, watertight boxes where installed in earth, surface mounted outdoors, or where threaded connection is needed. B. Size: Provide as required for number and size of conduit and conductors. Coordinate depth to suit wall depth and construction. Use special forms and designs as required for outlet facilities. C. Covers: Provide design and style to suit outlet box and electric facility. Provide for all unused or not designated boxes. Select NEMA rating for area environment and use watertight cover with gasket for exterior boxes or where installed in wet locations. D. O.Z. Gedney 5. Raco 6. Steel City 2.6 CHANNEL SUPPORT SYSTEMS A. Provide channel as surface mounted raceway and lighting support per NEC Article 352. 1. Construction: a. 1-1/2 inch cold rolled steel, 12 gauge, 1-5/8 inch depth or as required for wire fill. b. Attachment holes (knock outs) shall be factory punched with centers on the centerline of the channel. Maximum hole diameter shall be 9/16 inch with a minimum spacing of 6 inch on center. c. Support raceway a maximum of every 10 feet or less as required by loads and manufacturers design load tables. d. Provide snap on strip for closure of raceway. 2. Accessories to include, but not limited to: a. Conduit connection plate. b. Junction box. Kindorf 3. Unistrut PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 CONDUIT INSTALLATION A. General Requirements: 1. Minimum conduit size shall be ¾ inch for power and ½ inch for low voltage control systems. 2. Support outlet boxes, pull boxes, and junction boxes separately from building construction, not from conduit. 3. Securely support conduit from building construction. 4. Conceal conduit unless otherwise called for on plans. 5. Conduit runs shall be exposed in the following areas: a. Back Loading Dock Hallway / Warehouse areas. b. General merchandising areas. c. Open joist areas. 6. Do not expose conduit in finished rooms unless called for. 7. Where exposed conduit is permitted, install conduit parallel to ceilings, walls and floors in neat and organized configurations. All conduit in open joist areas shall be run above the bottom chord of bar joist. 8. Coordinate all conduit runs with other trades in advance of installation. 9. Where several conduits are installed together, support from steel slotted support system and clamp to the bottom where possible. 10. Ream conduit ends before installation. 11. Plug conduit openings until wires are installed. 12. Do not install conduit or boxes in structural columns unless called for. 13. Do not install adjacent to or on hot surfaces. 14. Do not install conduit in water or in area saturated with moisture. 15. Conduits where installed under floor slabs shall be as follows: a. Verify slab thickness and installation requirements in advance of conduit roughing. b. EMT conduit shall not be installed under floor slabs or concrete pours. c. All conduit penetrations through slab shall be rigid galvanized steel including 90° bend and riser up to 15 feet above floor. 16. Do not run conduit horizontally in concrete or block partitions. Provide EMT conduit to within 3 feet of equipment. b. Extend liquidtight flexible conduit as called for to motor. c. Where motor or equipment is within 3 feet of ceiling, support conduit bend against twisting, extend flexible or liquidtight to conduit motor. d. Meet NEC requirements. e. Cord drops as shown on Contract Drawings. 18. Provide green ground wire in all flexible conduit, liquidtight flexible conduit, EMT, and where called for. 19. Walk-in cooler / freezers: a. Butyl Sealant to be used on all panel to panel joints including all wall & ceiling panels. The sealant to be continuous 3/8-inch bead on the warm side (exterior face) of the key way. A continuous bead of butyl sealant to be used between the concrete or thermal break and plastic or wood screed. If the plastic shoe base is used a second bead of butyl sealant to be used in the shoe between the plastic shoe and wood screed. i. High Solids, non-skinning, non-drying, synthetic butyl elastomer sealant. Color – black, bronze, gray or off-white. ii. Products: Tremco – Trempro JS-773, Sika – Sikalastomer 511, or approved equal. b. Foam to be used to fill any gaps made from miscellaneous penetrations through the cooler / freezer box. Foam to also be used to fill any gaps underneath panels due to shimming. i. Single component urethane foam. Excessively closed call foam approx. 80%. Low expansion. Temperature stability of cured foam -40 deg F to +176 deg F. Class 1 fire rating. Thermal resistance R-6.0 / inch. USDA approved. ii. Product – Our Fill 1G or approved equal. c. Sealant – general purpose Polyurethane sealant. i. One component 1c polyurethane sealant non-sag. Color White. Service temperature -40 deg F to 194 deg F. Low odor. Non-corrosive. Bonds well to a variety of substrates. NSF FDA approved for incidental food contact. ii. Product: Sikaflex 221. d. Sealant – general purpose Silicone sealant. i. One component silicone sealant non-sag. Color White. Service temperature - 76 deg F to +356 deg F. Bonds well to a variety of substrates. NSF FDA approved for incidental food contact. ii. Product: Dow Corning 732 Multi-Purpose Sealant. 20. Refrigerated display cases (medium and low temp) a. Foam to be used to fill any gaps made from miscellaneous penetrations within all medium and low temperature refrigerated display cases. i. Single component urethane foam. Excessively closed cell foam approx. 80%. Low expansion. Temperature stability of cured foam -40 deg F to +176 deg F. Class 1 fire rating. Thermal resistance R-6.0 / inch. USDA approved. ii. Product – Pur Fill 1G or approved equal. b. Sealant – general purpose Polyurethane sealant. i. One component 1c polyurethane sealant non-sag. Color White. Service temperature – 40 deg F to 194 deg F. Low odor. Non-corrosive. Bonds well to a variety of substrates. NSF FDA approved for incidental food contact. ii. Product: Sikaflex 221. Wiring 600 volts or less in interior applications: a. Rigid steel (RMC): i. Mechanical rooms, docks, etc. ii. Main electric service rooms. iii. As called for. b. Electric metallic tubing (EMT) i. EMT conduit permitted for feeders. ii. Provide EMT for branch circuits for all applications except where RGS or other products are called for. iii. Provide EMT only in interior dry locations for concealed or exposed work. iv. Vertical conduit drops from ceiling to equipment. v. All conduit extending below 15 feet on exposed columns and walls. 2. Wiring 600 volts or less in outdoor above grade location: galvanized rigid heavy wall steel conduit (RMC). 3. Wiring 600 volts or less installed below grade or below ground floor slab: a. Galvanized rigid heavy wall steel conduit (RMC). b. Rigid PVC conduit as called for. C. Flexible and liquidtight flexible conduit. 1. Flexible metal conduit, final connection in dry areas: a. Motors and vibration equipment. b. Dry type transformers. c. Recessed lighting fixtures. d. Special systems. e. Where called for. 2. Liquidtight flexible conduit – final connection in wet or damp locations: a. Pump motors. b. Water heaters. c. Motors and vibration equipment. d. As defined by NEC Article 100. e. As called for. 3. Support flexible metal conduit every 4-1/2 feet or closer and within 12 inches of outlet boxes per code. 4. Maximum length of flexible conduit shall be 36 inches except as otherwise noted. D. Rigid Non-Metallic Conduit (RNC): 1. Provide threaded fitting where coupling PVC and galvanized rigid steel. 2. Solvent cemented joints, make-up leakproof. 3. In the following area, if called for: a. Concealed and/or free from physical damage – Schedule 40 PVC. b. Outdoor ductbank direct burial – Schedule 40 PVC. c. Outdoor ductbank concrete encased – Schedule 40 PVC. E. Provide caulking for sleeves and conduit to form watertight seals. b. Provide where called for. F. Interior: Concrete block walls, other applications requiring sleeves. 1. Where horizontal conduit runs pierce poured concrete or concrete block walls, provide rigid steel conduit sleeves. 2. Provide caulking for sleeves and conduit to form watertight seals where entering damp areas. 3. For fire rated 1 hour, 2 hour, or 3 hour walls provide: a. Fire resistant sealant compound between conduit and sleeve. Make: 3M or equal. G. Sheetrock Wall Penetrations: 1. Where single horizontal conduit runs pierce fire rated sheetrock walls drill or cut hole in sheetrock within +/- ¼ inch of conduit outside diameter (O.D.). 2. Where multiple horizontal conduit runs pierce fire rated sheetrock walls provide fire stop wall frames and conduit support systems. Seal these openings with pliable fire-resistant sealant. (3M Type) 3. Repair wall openings and finish with Joint Treatment Compound. Sand and finish to match general construction. H. Roof Penetrations: 1. Sleeves piercing roofs: a. Provide rigid steel conduit sleeves, pitch dam, flashing, and flashing skirt. b. Provide a roofer who is familiar with the roofing system and the manufacturer of the roofing system for the specific roofing system for the Facility. Provide submittals showing flashing details for each different penetration pre-approved by the roofing system manufacturer. 3.2 CHANNEL SUPPORT SYSTEMS A. Used as surface raceway system. 1. Provide channel with knock outs on all lighting fixture raceways. Feeder raceways do not require knockouts. 2. Support and wire light fixtures as shown on plans. 3. Wire fill per manufacturers table. 4. Use for low voltage cable distribution as noted on plans. 5. Suspend at elevations such that bottom of fixtures meet height requirements. Coordinate with other systems. 6. No splices or terminations shall be made in raceway system. 7. Install where required, prior to painting of roof deck as noted on plans. Provide in all conduit crossing expansion joints of the building. B. Install in slabs where conduit crosses building joint. C. Install bonding jumper around expansion joints. D. Weatherproof type in outdoor or damp areas. E. Where called for. 3.4 SURFACE RACEWAYS A. Pre-wired multioutlet system application: 1. Secure to structure at 30-inch intervals, preferably near outlet locations. 2. Secure fittings independently of raceway. 3. Use separate green ground wire. 4. Mount above floor or counter as called for. 5. Coordinate with equipment installation. 3.5 METAL WIREWAYS AND AUXILLARY GUTTERS A. Install so covers can be easily removed. B. Install straight and level. C. Provide only hangers designed for the equipment; support to structural members of the building. D. Meet NEC requirements for support. E. Punch openings where needed. F. Do not exceed code fill. G. Do not use for large conductor or primary voltage pull or splice boxes unless detailed otherwise. H. May be used above panelboards to ease wiring to contactors and out to devices. 3.6 TELECOMMUNICATIONS/POWER POLES A. Circuit extension to receptacle on millwork as directed by Owner. B. Provide all necessary attachments and mounting devices. C. Securely fasten pole at top and bottom. Provide and install additional accessories as noted on plans. 3.7 OUTLET, JUNCTION, AND PULLBOXES A. Flush recessed wherever possible and securely supported from building construction, coordinated with all trades for access and location. B. Where outlet boxes are installed in exposed block walls, locate at corner of block, with conduit as required to meet block conditions. C. Identify junction boxes for particular service such as power, lighting, fire alarm, etc., and label with suitable tags or stencil lettering. D. Locate where called for or required for outlet facilities and where called for or required for installing wire or cable. Make accessible after completion of construction. E. Do not locate junction and pullboxes in finished rooms unless called for. F. Mounting height of boxes shall be: 1. Switches, occupancy sensors: 46-inch unless otherwise noted on Contract Drawings. 2. Receptacles: 18-inch unless otherwise noted on Contract Drawings. 3. Heights refer to center of box above finished floor. 3.8 FIRESTOPPING A. Install firestopping at penetrations of fire-rated wall assemblies. Comply with requirements in Section 078413 "Penetration Firestopping." 3.9 PROTECTION A. Protect coatings, finishes, and cabinets from damage and deterioration. 1. Repair damage to galvanized finishes with zinc-rich paint recommended by manufacturer. 2. Repair damage to PVC coatings or paint finishes with matching touchup coating recommended by manufacturer. 3.10 PREVENTION OF CORROSION A. Protect all metallic materials against corrosion. B. Do not install aluminum in contact with earth embedded in concrete. Where connected to dissimilar metal, protect by proper fittings and treatment.
