Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SPECIFICATIONS AND DRAWINGS A. Specification sections specifically pertaining to electrical work have 26000 series numbers. The Contractor shall, however, be bound by all General Supplementary Conditions and all other sections related to electrical work. B. The Contractor is expected to be familiar with the terms and abbreviations used in the trade. In the event that any abbreviation used in these specifications or on drawings is not clear to the Contractor, he should request clarification during the bidding period. The failure to understand any such term or abbreviation shall not be used as a basis for change in cost. C. Any work shown on drawings and not particularly described in the trade specifications, or specified and not shown on the drawings, shall be included by the Contractor. D. The lists of equipment and schedules appearing in the specifications or drawings are included only for the assistance and guidance of the Contractor in arriving at a more complete understanding of the intended installation. They are not intended, nor to be construed to relieve the responsibility of the contractor in making his own takeoff and providing all the required work. 1.3 SPECIFICATION FORMAT A. This specification is partially of the abbreviated or "streamlined" type and may include incomplete sentences. Omissions of works or phrases such as "the Contractor shall", "in conformance with", "shall be", "as noted on the drawings", "according to the plans", "a", "the", and "all" are intentional. Omitted words or phrases shall be supplied by inference in the same manner as they are when a "note" occurs on the drawings. B. References in this division (Division 26 - Electrical) to "the Contractor" shall mean the Contractor responsible for Division 26. (Generally this will be the Electrical Subcontractor). The Contractor is expected to be familiar with the terms and abbreviations used in the trade, such as GND, AWG, U.L., etc. In the event that any abbreviation used in these specifications is not clear to the Contractor, he should request clarification during the bidding period. The failure to understand any such term or abbreviation shall not be used as a basis for a change in cost. 1.5 REGULATIONS, CODES, AND FEES A. Refer to General Supplementary Conditions. B. Comply with all applicable OSHA, federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations. C. Additional regulations include, but are not limited to: 1. American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM). 2. American National Standards Institute (ANSI). 3. Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC). 4. Edison Electric Institute (EEI). 5. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 6. Insulated Power Cable Engineers Association (IPCEA). 7. National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA). 8. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). a. National Electrical Code, NFPA No. 70-2017 or latest edition. b. Other publications included in "National Fire Codes", 15 volume set published by NFPA. 9. National Electrical Safety Code, latest edition, IEEE Standards. 10. Local Electrical Code. 11. Local Utility Standards. 12. Underwriters Laboratories (UL). 13. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). 14. 2012 North Carolina Building Code. 15. 2012 North Carolina Energy Conservation Code. D. Each item of equipment and material shall conform to requirements of these applicable publications which make them most suitable in the opinion of the Architect/Engineer for environmental conditions where they shall be installed. E. Any paragraph of requirements in these specifications, or drawings, deviating from the rules, requirements, and specifications of the above organizations shall be invalid and their requirements shall hold precedent thereto. The Contractor shall be held responsible for adherence to all rules, requirements, and specifications as set forth above. Any additional work or material necessary for adherence will not be allowed as an extra, but shall be included in the bid price. Ignorance of any rule, requirement, or specification shall not be allowed as an excuse for nonconformity. Acceptance by the Architect/Engineer does not relieve the Contractor from the expense involved. Items which are within scope of items tested by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., or other suitable nationally recognized independent testing laboratories shall have their conformance with these applicable publications evidenced by attachment of authorized seal, label, or stamp of said testing laboratories. G. Approval of items, whether evidenced by seal, label, or stamp, shall not absolve Contractor from compliance with requirements of Contract Documents. H. Secure necessary permits and pay all required fees applicable to the work in Division 26. 1.6 INSPECTIONS A. Obtain local electrical inspection certificate and deliver to the Owner. B. Obtain receipt and deliver to the Architect/Engineer before application for final payment. 1.7 SCOPE OF WORK AND INTENT A. Equipment and Systems Specified in Division 26. 1. Intent: It is the general intent of the drawings and these specifications that the Contractor for electrical work furnish and install a complete, workable systems in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations and to the satisfaction of the Architect/Engineer and Owner. 2. The Contractor shall furnish to the job site and install all equipment and materials specified in the applicable technical sections of this specification. Installation shall be in strict accordance with locations as indicated on the drawings, as detailed, as scheduled, and as specified in the technical sections. Installation shall include all accessories required to assure a complete and workable installation of the equipment and system. 3. The work shall include the furnishing of labor, materials, tools, equipment, transportation, permits, inspection fees, services, and all necessary related items required for complete and operating systems. 4. The Electrical Drawings show the layout, switching, circuiting, etc., but not minute details. 5. Electrical Equipment and Systems - Brief Scope: a. Electrical service. b. Lighting and power feeders. c. Branch circuit panels. d. Conduit, wireways, wiring, outlets, switches, etc. e. Motor disconnect switches - where required by the code. f. Luminaires and lamps. g. Fire alarm /security system (conduit only). h. Temporary electric service. i. Data Systems. j. Sound System. k. CCTV System (power supply locations only). The Contractor shall provide (1) qualified mechanic & low voltage tech (CAT6) to provide onsite support for two (2) – eight (8) hour days immediately prior to store opening (Friday and Saturday) and one (1) – twelve (12) hour day during store opening. 7. The Contractor shall provide (1) qualified mechanic to provide support for eight (8) hours with the balancing contractor. The electrical contractor shall provide amperage readings of the fan equipment. B. Electrical Equipment Specified in Other Divisions 1. Intent: It is the intent of these specifications that the Contractor will provide the power supply wiring from the panel through the disconnects (if required) and the load contacts of the controller to the motor or other load, unless specifically noted otherwise. Except as otherwise noted, the control circuit shall be provided by the Contractor furnishing the equipment so that the responsibility for the equipment and its control circuit rests with one Contractor. The Contractor shall furnish all conduit and control circuit wiring for others as identified on the plans. Where the power supply circuit is also the control circuit, such as would be the case in a unit heater with a line voltage thermostat, a water heater with a line voltage aquastat, etc., the wiring shall be included under Division 26. 2. Control wiring circuit(s) at any voltage, when not part of power wiring and isolated with control power transformers and/or interposing relays, shall be provided under the Division 26 work. 3. Refer to Site Development, Architectural, Structural, Refrigeration, Mechanical and Special Systems drawings for wiring types/conductors, correct labeling, and other information and details relating to Division 26 work. 4. Provide all power supply wiring to equipment furnished by others. 5. Provide disconnect switches where required by the Code. 6. Receive and store controlling equipment as necessary and be responsible for proper sizing of thermal trips. Unless otherwise noted, all motor controllers shall be installed by the Contractor. 1.8 TESTS A. General 1. Schedule all tests as soon as each part of the wiring system is complete and before it is energized. 2. All test equipment and set-up shall be provided by the Contractor. 3. All electrical energy for the tests shall be furnished from the temporary or permanent electrical service. 1.9 DEMONSTRATION OF COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS A. Schedule system checkouts when work is complete and ready for final inspection. 2. Notify the Architect/Engineer and the Owner at least 48 hours in advance. 3. All test equipment and set-up shall be provided by the Contractor. 4. Electrical energy for system checkouts will be furnished from the permanent electrical service. 5. Refer to all Division 260000 Specification Section for additional testing, inspection and adjustment requirements. B. Power Distribution System 1. On a feeder-by-feeder basis, energize all loads simultaneously or as directed by the Architect/Engineer for a period of two hours. 2. Check for load balance among phases on all lighting or panel feeders. 3. Correct phase imbalance as directed by the Architect/Engineer; correct defective equipment or workmanship immediately. 4. Demonstrate that all emergency circuits are operative by interrupting the "normal" power to each unit or system as applicable. C. Lighting Systems 1. Demonstrate that all luminaires will operate. 2. Demonstrate that all lighting switches, contactors, timers, photoelectric controls, etc., as applicable, will operate as shown or specified. D. Telecom Systems 1. Demonstrate that all terminals are powered and connected to the system. E. Sound System 1. Demonstrate that all components are operating and adjusted to provide music and paging operation. F. Building Automation Control Systems 1. Demonstrate that all terminations are correct and power is available to all devices. 1.10 RECEIPTS A. The items listed below are all specified elsewhere; they are listed below for reference and convenience. B. The Contractor shall obtain written receipts as applicable from the Owner's authorized representative for each of the following items or systems listed in subparagraph "C" below. Certification of complete system. 2. Instruction of Owner's authorized representatives. 3. Bound copies of wiring diagrams, catalog "cuts", maintenance instructions, spare parts lists, etc. 4. Guarantee and Service Contract. C. Submit receipts for each of the following: 1. Electrical inspection certificate. 2. Spare fuses. 3. Panel and cabinet keys. 4. Sound system. Spare parts and service manuals, operation manuals, and installation detail drawings. 1.11 SUBMITTALS A. Shop Drawings and Other Data 1. Shop drawings and descriptive data shall include all pertinent information such as dimensions, manufacturer, capacity, type curves, certification, accessories, physical and performance data, finishes, materials, location, and complete wiring diagrams for each system. Wiring diagrams specifically made and/or corrected for this proposal include all the published literature about the product or system(s). NOTE: When a proposed equivalent is submitted for approval, Contractor shall ensure that all detailed characteristics of the equipment equal or exceed the catalog characteristics of equipment specified, whether specifically indicated in the specification or not. Deviations from the specified item shall be clearly explained in the submittal. 2. Clearly identify each separate item submitted by job name, section number, paragraph number, and specific item number where applicable. 3. Contractor shall be responsible for dimensions to be confirmed at job site to ensure that items to be furnished fit the space available, and accordingly order such equipment that final installation suits the true intent of the Contract Drawings. 4. If equipment requiring different arrangement of connections from those shown is approved, it shall be the Contractor's responsibility to furnish revised layouts, install equipment to operate properly in harmony with Contract intent, and make all changes in work required by new arrangements of connections. Also, coordinate control and power wiring with other trades and pay for any changes so imposed. Copies of these changes shall be sent to the Architect/Engineer. 5. Provide applicable installation and maintenance manuals. B. List of Equipment and Systems Requiring Shop Drawings and Other Data Submittals 1. Transformer pad. Luminaires, lighting contactors, etc. 5. Wiring devices and accessories. 6. Grounding system. 7. Exit luminaires. 8. Emergency luminaires. 9. Telecommunication Systems. 10. Sound System. 11. Cable Tray and accessories: a. Provide complete materials for the entire cable tray system. b. Provide plan drawing of tray system for review, if difference from the contract drawings. 12. All wire and cable. 13. Safety switches and fuses. 14. Disconnect switches. 1.12 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS A. Prepare Operation and Maintenance Manual. Include in each O&M Manual, a copy of each approved Shop Drawing, wiring diagrams, spare parts lists, as-built drawings, warranties, and manufacturer’s instructions. Include typewritten instructions, describing equipment, starting/operating procedures, emergency operating instructions, lighting control schedules, and recommended maintenance procedures. Include name, address, and telephone number of installing contractor and of supplier manufacturer representative and service agency for all major equipment items. Manual to consist of one (1) hardcopy binder(s) and one (1) CD/DVD. Hardcopy binder to be three-ring, heavy-duty binder(s) with name of project on cover and spine, contain a table of contents page, and contain dividers based upon specification section numbers for all information listed above. CD/DVD to be in a case with name of project clearly identified on case and on CD/DVD and contain bookmarked pdf files, based upon specification section numbers, for all information listed above. Deliver to Owner’s Representative for review before request for final acceptance. 1.13 PROJECT RECORD DOCUMENTS (AS-BUILTS) A. Prior to application for final payment, Contractor shall submit complete and legible project record documents. B. The Contractor shall obtain, at his expense, one (1) set of construction Contract Documents (black and white prints or electronic files) for the purpose of recording as-built conditions. C. The Contractor shall perform all survey work required for the location and construction of the work and to record information necessary for completion of the record drawings. Record drawings shall show all actual locations of the constructed facilities in the same manner as was shown on the bid drawings. All elevations and dimensions shown on the drawings shall be Wegmans Food Markets GENERAL CONSTRUCTION ELECTRICAL Section 260000 #071 – Ithaca Page 8 of 16 Ithaca, NY January 20, 2020 Billitier Electric verified or corrected so as to provide a complete and accurate record of the facilities as constructed. D. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to mark EACH sheet of the contract documents in red pencil and to record thereon in a legible manner, any and all approved field changes and conditions as they occur. A complete file of approved field sketches, diagrams, and other changes shall also be maintained. At completion of the work, the complete set of red marked contract documents, plus all approved field sketches and diagrams shall be submitted to the engineer and used in preparation of the record drawings. E. A complete set of red marked contract drawings shall be submitted, at one time, as the “As- Built” set. If there are no changes to a specific drawing, the contractor shall write “NO CHANGES” on that drawing. ALL drawings shall be included in the “As-Built” set. F. The complete set of red marked drawings or electronic files shall be certified by the Contractor as reflecting as-built conditions and submitted to the engineer for approval. G. Documents (with any changes or modifications clearly indicated) shall include, but not be limited to: 1. One-line Diagram. 2. Electrical Site Details. 3. Panelboard and Busduct Schedules. 4. Cable Tray Plan. 5. Reflected Ceiling Plan and Lighting Plan changes including contactor schedule and lighting schedule (reference Appendix D). 6. HVAC Plan and Refrigeration Plans. 7. Scanner Register, Data, Computer, Scales, and Telephone Plans and Details. 8. Power and Equipment Plans. 9. Sound System Plans. 10. Time-current trip curve characteristic for each size of circuit breaker or fuse used. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS A. New, unless otherwise indicated. 1. It is the intent of this Contract that all material and/or equipment of the same category shall be of the same manufacturer, or in the case of special systems which are a composite of a number of manufacturers' products, shall be supplied and/of serviced from an organization with one source of responsibility. 2. For example, the following items shall be considered as coming under the intent of the above: a. Power and lighting panelboards, load centers, and circuit breakers. Motor starters, controllers, magnetic contactors, pushbutton stations, and related items. c. Wiring devices of same type, e.g., receptacles, switches, etc. d. Sound system in its entirety. B. Design 1. Equipment and accessories may be specifically described or identified by manufacturer's catalog numbers. Where no manufacturer's name or model number is specified, equipment submitted must be designed in conformity with applicable technical standards, suitable for maximum working loads, and shall have a neat and finished appearance. All material specified by manufacturer's name and/or identification are to be considered the standard of quality that are to be used throughout the installation. C. NOTE: All equipment capacities indicated in the schedules or within this specification, interpreted as minimum, unless otherwise noted. 1. Obtain from Contractor supplying equipment from the manufacturer, printed installation instructions and wiring diagrams to aid in properly executing work installation where applicable, especially to ensure that manufacturer's warranty shall be applicable. 2. Submit copies of such instructions to the Architect/Engineer prior to installation for use in supervision of work. D. For items of material and equipment which are listed by manufacturers names and where the words "or as approved" appear, they are intended to indicate general type and quality required. The Architect/Engineer's decision as to quality and relative merit shall be final. E. All electrical equipment shall operate without objectionable noise or vibration, as determined by Architect/Engineer. Make necessary modifications or replacements as approved, without extra cost to the Owner. F. All products and materials shall be new. 2.2 EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS AND MANUFACTURERS A. Major equipment or systems shall be installed under the direct supervision of a factory authorized sales and service agent. B. Supplier shall maintain an adequate supply of spare parts and have technical personnel available to make repairs to systems within twenty-four (24) hours after they are notified by Owner. C. Shop drawings shall be disapproved if not accompanied by proof that the foregoing has been complied with. Any increase in costs to other Contractors caused by an approved substitution shall be borne by the Contractor. B. Substitutions for equipment listed within specifications or contract drawings are to be done in writing to the Owner’s Architect/Engineer. 2.4 SAMPLES AND ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICAL INFORMATION A. Provide samples and additional equipment technical information, and make typical installations as required or requested by the Architect/Engineer. 2.5 EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED BY OWNER A. Shipped loose will be two (2) electric switchboards and generator main switchboard to be rigged and set in place in the Electric Room by the Contractor. B. Shipped loose will be the generator and two (2) transfer switches to be set in place by the Contractor. C. Shipped loose will be modular panelboard system, transformers and panelboards, quantity per plan, to be installed by the Contractor at locations designated in Contract Drawings. D. Store Equipment: 1. Refer to equipment schedule as shown on the contract drawings indicating any installation needs, changes, or additions necessary for complete operating system. E. Other equipment to be furnished by Owner and installed by the Contractor: 1. Two (2) emergency fixtures and two (2) exterior wall packs shipped with the powerhouse. Fixtures are shipped loose with the power house. 2. Wall pack fixtures for the refrigeration houses. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION A. Erect equipment in a neat and workmanlike manner; align, level and adjust for satisfactory operation; install so that connecting and disconnecting of conduit and accessories can be made readily, and so that all parts are easily accessible for inspection, maintenance, and repair. Follow manufacturer's recommendations for protection of equipment and materials during storage, construction, and startup; protect equipment outlets, pipe, and conduit openings with temporary plugs or caps. 3.3 COORDINATION A. Where job conditions required reasonable changes in indicated locations or arrangements prior to roughing, make such changes without extra cost to owner. B. Adjust work to avoid obstacles anticipated or encountered during and after the construction of the project. C. Items included under coordination shall be: 1. Scheduling, proposed routing, and critical dimensions with all other trades prior to roughing and equipment installation. 2. Power wiring, control wiring, and interlocks shall be coordinated with all other trades furnishing power consuming equipment prior to submission of wiring diagrams in applicable submittals. 3. Contractor shall study and compare all Contract Drawings, Specifications, and other instructions, and shall at once report to the Architect/Engineer any error, inconsistency, or omission which he may discover. 4. All pre-bid coordination with utilities to determine exact terminal point locations, conduit routings, charges, etc. 5. All the electrical work shall be coordinated with Owner with the accepted practices and products. 6. Coordinate shipping dates of Owner-furnished items to follow closely with the construction scheduled. 3.4 WORKMANSHIP A. Complete electrical installation shall be made in a neat and workmanlike manner in conformance with best trade practice or modern electrical shops by competent, experienced mechanics, and to the full satisfaction and approval of the Architect/Engineer. 1. Remove and replaced all work rejected as defective, non-operational, or not in conformance with intent of this Contract, as directed by the Owner. 3.5 DIMENSIONS, ELEVATIONS, AND LAYOUTS A. Verify dimensions and elevations shown or scaled on drawing by actual field measurements after building construction or alterations work has progressed to the point where such measurements may be taken. Advise Architect/Engineer, in writing, regarding those critical dimensions which must be held by other trades as they perform their work. 2. Assume full responsibility for accuracy of all work under the Contract and make corrections as required. 3. It shall be this Division's responsibility to coordinate with all other trades and separate equipment contracts regarding mechanical equipment layouts, space requirements, mounting details, "roughing-in" dimensions, and for items substituted for those specified herein to avoid conflict. 4. Arrange for disassembling large pieces of equipment for entry into buildings as necessary to pass through available openings. B. Layouts 1. Layouts of feeders and wiring shown on drawings are diagrammatic, and shall be constructed as such, and are intended to show scope of work and general arrangements. 2. Power wiring, control wiring, and interlocks shall be coordinated with all other trades furnishing power consuming equipment prior to submission of wiring diagrams in applicable submittals. 3.6 CLEANING, POLISHING, AND PAINTING A. In addition to requirements of General Conditions: 1. Remove labels, dirt, paint, grease, and stains from exposed devices, equipment, and fixtures provided under this Contract. 2. Clean and polish same to present a first-class, workmanlike job ready and suitable for use by occupants. 3. Vacuum clean equipment, including current conducting components and compartments, immediately before testing and immediately before putting equipment into service. 4. "Touch-up" or fully paint with matching colors all marred, scratched, or rusty surfaces of equipment installed. 3.7 TESTING, BALANCING, REPORTS, ETC. A. General: 1. Refer to all Division 260000 Specification Sections for additional testing requirements. B. During progress of installation and at completion of the work, test complete systems as directed and specifically as follows: 1. Demonstrate freedom from shorts and grounds. 2. Take and record ampere and voltage readings as may be directed or required. 3. Test all control systems. Provide testing of special equipment as specified elsewhere. 5. Balance connected loads across phases at panels and load centers. 6. Submit to Owner completed Testing and Certification Checklist (Appendix A) prior to request for final payment. Voltage readings, panelboard amperage readings, and voltage drop readings are to be taken the first week after store grand opening between Wednesday and Saturday and between the hours of noon and 5PM. C. Cooperate in testing equipment furnished by other trades, including but not limited to: 1. Checking motors for rotation. 2. Running full load tests on all power consuming equipment. 3. Coordinating and testing control wiring and interlocks. D. Prior to installation and connection to permanent loads, all circuit breakers shall be tested mechanically and electrically. A written certificate showing that all circuit breakers have been factory tested and operate within the time bands recommended for the current levels used shall be submitted. E. Breakers requiring settings coordinated with available interrupting capacities shall be set to trip within the appropriate time current limitations. Record all setting parameters in Operation & Maintenance Manual provided to Owner upon completion of project. F. Measure ground resistance, using industry recognized method, for the "service ground" point(s). G. Provide written reports detailing the tests performed and results noted. H. Provide individual certificate of completion for all the systems from the supplier's or manufacturer's representative performing the final tests. I. Stand-by generator (Sections 263213, 263600, 263601) and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) system (Section 263353) are to be field tested per appropriate specification section 6-8 weeks prior to store opening date and witnessed by Owner’s representative. Coordinate with on-line UPS system to ensure UPS is synchronized with generator. Verify that designated emergency lighting fixtures are illuminated during generator test. J. Lighting program for night setback of designated lighting fixtures is to be tested and approved by Owner’s representative four weeks prior to store opening date. Lighting Control Form (provided by Owner) shall be completed by the Contractor upon completion of testing of lighting program. 3.8 PROTECTION OF WORK DURING CONSTRUCTION A. Keep conduit fittings, boxes, raceways, cabinets, and enclosures closed to prevent entrance of foreign matter. The Contractor shall be fully responsible for his own materials and equipment whether or not they have been paid for by the Owner, and if any such material or equipment are stolen, lost, or damaged, they shall be replaced by the Contractor without additional cost to the Owner. This includes the proper protection of all finished surfaces of equipment, escutcheon plates, etc., against damage by paint, plaster, dirt, etc., until other trades have completed their work. 3.9 CIRCUIT NUMBERS A. Circuit numbers shown on the drawings are for reference only and may or may not be the same as the final circuit numbers. B. Rearrangement of circuit numbers may be made to suit the convenience of the Owner, Contractor, or material supplier. C. The fixtures, devices, or equipment shown on a common circuit may not be rearranged to other circuits without written permission of the Architect/Engineer. D. If circuit numbers or connections are changed from those shown on the drawings for any reason, the changed items should be so noted on the "Project Record Documents". E. In any case, the circuits and numbers used shall be metered in the circuit directory of the appropriate panel. 3.10 EXCAVATION AND BACKFILLING A. Contractor shall include as a part of his Electrical Work, all excavation and backfilling required for his trade, both inside and outside of buildings. All excavations shall provide sufficient clearances for proper execution of the work. Banks of excavation shall be maintained in a safe and stable condition at all times, using piling if necessary. Methods and phasing of excavation and backfill must be approved by the Architect/Engineer. B. Open trenches shall be adequately protected to avoid injury to work, workmen, or public. All precautions, barricades, and other requirements shall be as required by state or local laws or ordinances. Insofar as is possible, obstruction of roadways and sidewalks shall be kept to a minimum. C. In general, all excavations shall be backfilled to original elevations of the ground, unless otherwise required or directed. No rocks shall be placed within 18 inches of piping and no rock of more than sixty (60) pounds shall be placed in any part of the trench. No cinders or other corrosive material shall be used for backfill. D. Care shall be taken to avoid any injury or damage to the work during backfilling. E. Where excavation is required under footings, backfill with compacted granular fill from bottom of excavation to bottom of footings. Obtain written permission from the Architect/Engineer prior to excavation under any footings. F. Percentage of Maximum Density Requirements: Provide compaction to obtain at least 95 percent of maximum density (determined in accordance with ASTM D 1557) of same soil material compacted at optimum moisture content, for actual density of each layer of fill material in place. G. Moisture Control 1. Maintain actual moisture content in soil material at time of compaction to within a range of 1 percent below and 3 percent above optimum moisture content of soil, as determined by moisture-density relation test. 2. When soil materials are too dry for proper compaction, uniformly apply required amount of water to surface of fill layer in such a manner as to prevent free water appearing on surface during or after compaction operation. 3. Remove and replace, or scarify and air dry, materials that are too wet to permit compaction to specified percentage of maximum density. 3.11 EQUIPMENT, FOUNDATIONS, AND SUPPORTS A. The Contractor shall provide all concrete pads, steel supports, platforms, hangers, and carriers required for the proper installation of his conduit and equipment, except where specifically noted otherwise. 3.12 CUTTING AND PATCHING A. The Contractor shall be responsible for all cutting, patching, and restoration created because of his own work, unless specifically stated otherwise. B. Unnecessary cutting and patching shall be avoided through proper planning of work, provision of conduit sleeves, and cooperation with other Contractors. C. In no case shall structural members be cut or notched unless written approval is given by the Architect/Engineer. D. All patching shall be done by workmen who are skilled in this line of work. 3.13 EXISTING SERVICES A. Active: When encountered in work, protect, brace, and support existing active sewers, gas, electric, water, and other services where required for proper execution of work. If existing active services are encountered that require relocation, make request in writing for determination. Do not prevent or disturb operation of active services that are to remain. Repair broken service at no cost to the Owner. Record on Contractor's job site drawings set. Interruption of Services: Where work makes temporary shutdowns of services unavoidable, shutdown at night or at such times as approved by the Owner, which will cause least interference with established operating routine. Arrange to work continuously, including overtime if required, to assure that services will be shut down only during time actually required to make necessary connections to existing work.
