COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES
Regular Meeting 3:30 p.m. June 26, 2019

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Moved by Commissioner Onyejuruwa: Seconded by Commissioner Wright
RESOLVED, That the minutes of the May 22, 2019 Community Police Board meeting
be approved as published.
Carried Unanimously
REPORT FROM THE COMMON COUNCIL LIAISON:
Alderperson Kerslick reported that the search committee for the Police Chief had an
information session last Friday. Chair Kane, and Commissioners Onyejuruwa, and
Rogers are on the committee, along with Alderperson Kerslick.
Common Council is beginning budget talks, there will be several meetings for budget
conversations throughout the summer. The formal budget proposals will be presented to
Council in October.
Chair Kane reported that Mayor Myrick attended the search committee meeting and
spent a long time outlining his expectations for the position of Police Chief, which
included: Professionalism, Community Orientation, and Innovation.
Alderperson Kerslick reported that subsequent Police Chief search committee meetings
will be confidential.
REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Deputy Chief Monticello reported that the Police Department is still trying to fill
vacancies, the next civil service test will be held in September. The Civil Service
Commission expanded the list of potential candidates to include 5 additional counties.
A request came through to IPD to perform background checks on the applicants to the
CPB. Brian Robison’s company will be handling the background checks, they can
contact IPD with questions.
Youth Commissioner Logue inquired about gaps in IPD staffing, asked if she could
assist in strategizing ways to reach out to younger people and get them involved.
Acting Chief Nayor gave reports of recent trainings IPD has undergone, including a
week-long training here in Ithaca with participants from all over the Country.
This year IPD will have a year-end report which will include crime statistics,
accomplishments, and year end goals.
The Commissioners asked if the IPD Social Media Policy been redrafted, requested to
view the new policy.
Acting Chief Nayor shared compliments the department has received.
OLD BUSINESS:
Draft Policy to Approve the Policy on Handling Closed Investigations: Addendum to
CPB Procedures.
Approval of Addendum to CPB Procedures:
Moved by Commissioner Beem-Miller: Seconded by Commissioner Wright
RESOLVED, That the Addendum to CPB Procedures be passed as drafted.
Carried Unanimously
On a motion, the Group entered Executive Session to discuss 2019-1
ADJOURNMENT:
On a motion the meeting adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
