HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB 2019-04-24CITY OF ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES Regular Meeting 3:30 p.m. April 24, 2019 Present: Chair: Kane Commissioners (3) Rogers, Wright, Beem-Miller OTHERS PRESENT: Common Council Liaison- Kerslick Deputy Chief Nayor Deputy Chief Monticello Public Information Specialist- Faraday EXCUSED: Commissioner Onyejuruwa CALL TO ORDER: 3:34 p.m. REPORT FROM THE COMMON COUNCIL LIAISON: Alderperson Kerslick reported that the Mayor is forming the search committee for the new Police Chief and that he would like 3 volunteers from the Community Police Board. Chair Kane stated her request for filling the vacancies on the CPB, announced her retirement from her position with the County and that she would likely be available and willing to serve on the search committee after her schedule frees up as a result of this retirement. Commissioner Rogers expressed frustration with the vacancies and lack of re-appointments on the Board. A conversation ensued regarding the vacancies on the board. REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT: Deputy Chief Nayor reported retirements and promotions. Deputy Chief Monticello reported that there will be 7 openings in the Ithaca Police Department. IPD is going before the civil service board to ask to add more counties to the accepted applicants pool. DC Nayor shared two compliments that were received. Reported that the IPD had a meeting with the Downtown Ithaca Alliance regarding the Commons. IPD worked with Ithaca College students regarding officer wellness. IPD is working on a paring with National Night Out to her a BBQ event together. DC Monitcello shared upcoming events, including a hockey game, and a candle lighting ceremony for officers who have passed in the line of duty.
