Meeting was called to order at 6:04pm
Approval of the October 1, 2018 Public Safety & Information Commission Meeting
Minutes- Resolution:
Moved by Commissioner Segerson: Seconded by Commissioner Holmes
RESOLVED, That the minutes of the October 1, 2018 Public Safety & Information
Commission meeting be approved as published.

Approval of the November 5, 2018 Public Safety & Information Commission
Meeting Minutes- Resolution:
Moved by Commissioner Contraccia: Seconded by Commissioner Segerson
RESOLVED, That the minutes of the November 5, 2018 Public Safety and Information
meeting be approved as corrected

Public Safety:
2.1 21st Century & Professional Policing Practices
IPD Deputy Chief Nayor introduced himself and gave a history of his experience with
the Oneota Police Department.
Chief Nayor discussed aspects of 21st Century Policing and outlined the 6 pillars:
Legitimacy & Trust; Education and Training; Utilization of Social Media & Technology;
Community Policing & Crime Prevention; Oversight & Policy; Office Safety & Wellness.
Public Information:
3.1 Social Media Policy Review and Discussion
PIS Faraday and City Clerk Conley- Holcomb distributed the city’s existing Social Media
Policy and asked for the Commissioners to review and benchmark areas for revision
and modernization.
The Commissioners will identify other municipalities with best practices regarding Social
Media Policies and begin the process of revision.
Commons:
4.1 Social Media Policy Review and Discussion
Commissioners Comella and Segerson are still in the process of gathering information
regarding other city’s practices and experience regarding the allowance of dogs on the
commons areas/ pedestrian malls.
New Business
5.1 Appointment of a Vice Chair to the Public Safety and Information Commission
Chair Jackson asked for volunteers to act as Vice Chair in her absence. Commissioner
Holmes volunteered.
RESOLVED, That Catherine Holmes will be the Public Safety & Information
Commission Vice Chair.
Carried Unanimously

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2019
