121 HUMPHREYS SERVICE BUILDING
ITHACA, NEW YORK 14853-3701
ADDENDUM NO.1
March 4, 2015
This Addendum contains changes to the requirements of the Contract Documents and Specifications. Such changes are to be incorporated into the Construction Documents and shall apply
to the work with the same meaning and force as if they had been included in the original document. Wherever this Addendum modifies a portion of a paragraph of the specifications or
a portion of any Drawing, the remainder of the Paragraph or Drawing shall remain in force.
NOTE: Provisions of all Contract Documents apply.
In the Specifications:
In Specification Section 01 14 00 – Work Restrictions, Part 1.11 Working Hours, Subpart A:
ADD Subparagraphs 1-3 as follows:
It is noted that the south side (5 side) of the building will remain occupied by office staff and for summer activities and camps for the duration.
From 6AM to 9AM, the contractor shall only have access to the exterior of the buidling and the work area at the Ground Floor north side (6 side) of the building. After 9AM, the contractor
may have access to all other public, non-residential and non-occupied residential areas of the building.
Access to the occupied portion of the building (5 side) must be coordinated with the project manager / university representative. A minimum 72 hours notification is required for entering
student / guest rooms.
In Specification Section 01 50 00 – Temporary Facilities and Controls, Part 1.5 Temporary Enclosures:
ADD Subpart C as follows:
Provide temporary dust and dirt control measures as follows:
Using a quality sealing tape which will remain in place during construction, but which will not pull paint or leave residue when removed, tape doors, edges and bottoms for all doors
to student rooms and non-work area rooms adjacent to the work area and along the corridor where the work is occurring.
Prior to commencing floor saw cutting, grinding, floor removal, excavation, or backfill, enclose the work area in polyethylene sheeting, minimum 4 mil thickness. Fasten securely.
Provide a ducted air supply at one end of the work area and a filtered negative air machine at the opposite end of the work area, both ducted to outdoors. (A HEPA negative air machine
is not required.)
For the Contractor’s reference, photographs of a pilot project previously performed at Clara Dickson Hall are attached for reference. These were also handed out at the Pre-Bid Walk-Through.
This dust and splash protection on the side walls proved adequate and was effective in keeping concrete splatter and dust from the adjacent areas. However, the hanging closure at the
south end was not effective and allowed dust to migrate to non-work areas, causing Contractor expense in having to clean all the rooms.
On the Ground Floor, the Contractor shall erect a suitable temporary corridor partition with a hinged door and dust migration seal around the pipes above to isolate the work area from
the elevator lobby and south side of the building. On the upper floors, the Contractor shall place saw-horse barricades north of building center with signage, indicating “No Admittance.
Hard Hat Area - Work Area”.
Note that the attached photos are provided for general information only. This excavation occurred at the far northeast end of one sanitary line where the line is shallowest. The line
generally pitches downward in the direction of the sewer.
In Specification Section 09 30 00 – Tile, Part 1:
ADD Subpart 1.10 as follows:
EXISTING CONDITIONS SPECIFICATION
Appended to this Specification is a copy of CU SAS Summer 2012 Specification 09 30 00 which covers the construction of Men’s First Floor Bathroom 1679. The Contractor shall assume that
all installations were made in accordance with this Specification.
The showers are constructed with a proprietary shower and waterproofing system per Part 2.09 and Part 3 of this Specification. All work in the current 2015 Project which affects these
shower units shall be installed in accordance with the requirements of the attached 2012 Specification.
In Specification Section 09 65 19 – Resilient VCT, Part 2.2 Resilient Tile Flooring Materials, Subpart A.:
REPLACE the words “EXCELON Feature Tile & Strips” WITH the words “EXCELON Standard Imperial Texture, 12˝ x 12˝ x c˝. Color(s) to be selected by Owner.”
In Specification Section 09 68 00 – Carpeting:
ADD Part 2.6 as follows:
BASIS OF DESIGN
A. Basis of Design carpet tile shall be Interface Modular Commercial Carpet Tile, Cubic – 4855 Optic.
In Specification Section 09 68 00 – Carpeting:
DELETE Part 3.1 – Pre-Installation Requirements.
In Specification Section 31 23 16.13 - Trenching, Part 1.2 Work Included, Subpart B:
DELETE Item 8. “Owner Provided Dump Site” and INSERT new Item 8 as follows:
Disposal of Materials.
In Specification Section 31 23 16.13 - Trenching, Part 3.6 Disposal of Materials:
ADD Subpart B follows:
As the Basis of Bid, the Contractor shall include two separate dumpsters for excavated materials from inside the building.
Concrete chunks from the removed floor shall be placed in one dumpster. The Contractor shall endeavor to recycle the waste concrete material at a concrete recycling facility.
The other dumpster shall be lined with 10 mil polyethylene sheeting and shall receive the soil, pipe sections and cinder fill from the excavation inside the building.
During previous excavations in the building, the concrete floor was approximately 5 inches thick. Beneath the floor was a bedding material, black in color, approximately 6 to 8 inches
thick, which is believed by the Engineer to have been a cinder fill material. Beneath that was material appearing to be native soil. The Contractor shall assume that this material can
be disposed of in a non-hazardous landfill. However, the material may be tested by the Owner, prior to removal from site to confirm that the material does not contain sufficient levels
of contaminants, which would require the disposal in a special landfill. Any costs for testing of the material or extended hauling costs to a disposal in a special landfill shall be
borne by the Owner. Do not include in the Contractor’s bid.
In Specification Section 31 23 23.13 - Backfill, Part 2.2 Offsite Materials:
ADD Subpart G as follows:
