Hallett-Harris and Dave Warden Excused: Caitlin Moss and George McGonigal Guest: Barnaby Knoll --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Talyse LaDora Hampton Roll call – Introduction of guest Matthew Gonyea a current student at Ithaca HS and attended the meeting as part of his government class. The February Minutes were approved unanimously – Jesse made the motion and Jason 2nd the motion Talyse announced that she has taken a job with Tompkins County Youth Services and because it is a conflict of interest her working there and being on the board she will be taking a leave of absence till 12/2017 and she will return to her duties on the board. Staff and Program Updates: Liz reviewed the recent structural changes to the IYB staff and the new organization chart was handed out to members. Jim D’Alterio is now Deputy Director and will be taking care of building/maintenance issues with both Cass and IYB; Mike Blakely-Armitage is no longer Recreation Administrator and has returned to his Coordinator position and is now at Cass Park (he will be handling swim, pool, rink programming and Cass Park Day Camp instead of Stewart Park Day Camp). Yolanda Richardson is now here at the IYB and will be handling all contractual programming. Ernesto (Tito) Villa has been promoted to Recreation Coordinator and will be handling Stewart Park Day Camp instead of Cass Park Day Camp as well as other recreation programming (lacrosse, softball, baseball, etc.). Liz reviewed the new City Sanctuary Ordinance that was emailed to board members, and with this new policy, all City applications have been revised to remove the US citizen question. YES Program has been doing approximately 30 teen interviews a week to meet their contractual obligations. Committee on Committees – The Mayor is looking at the city’s current committee structure and will be consolidating it to make these more effective – 4 commissions currently and Mayor is still working on this. Liz will keep the board posted of how this will affect the seven current IYB Adv Board members. The IYB applied to be a public art site and we were approved by BPW; hope to have mural on bldg. by 2018, which we hope will give recognition and awareness in the community of what we are and what we do. Eric has not yet done shadowing with Outing Programs, but hopes to be in contact soon with Kim Olsen to set this up. Board Member info access – Eric will bring card to next meeting for Jim as a welcome from The Board and Jody will forward/cc any emails with announcements/hiring/achievements, etc., to Board Members to keep them updated of happenings at the IYB. Jump On Board Event is on 5/15/17 @ 5:30-7:30 at the Hilton Garden Inn – we will be tabling at this event and will discuss coverage at 5/9 meeting and Eric will reach out to Jeff of Friends to share table as we did last year. There is a music festival happening on 9/23 at Stewart Park the IYB will be selling water bottles at the event and Jesse has a resource through Cornell for this and will follow up with Liz on this. Talyse was voted in as Co-Chair with Eric and because of her leave of absence, Jason Hecht will be filling in as Co-Chair with Eric Nichols – vote was made and was unanimous. Barnaby Knoll turned his application in for At-Large Membership to the board and vote was taken and Jesse made motion and all were unanimous. Jesse Tedora will be doing a radio slot in July for Tompkins County Trust Company and will be giving the IYB a “plug” on this – information/ideas and examples will be emailed to board and board will approve the radio version on 5/9 meeting and should be added to the Agenda. He will also be doing an evaluations for the United Way on non-profits and, after school and summer camps and there was a discussion regarding what Recreation Partnership is and what town/cities are part of this – the Spring/Summer I-Playbook was given to each board member so that they can read the RP description and listing of what municipalities are currently part of the RP (Page 2 of the brochure). Dave Warden does the Tae Kwon Do program for the IYB and currently they are low on beginners and would like to get the word out and have advertising done. Jody will speak with Yolanda regarding emails/marketing and be sure the age requirement starts at ages 6+ for beginners. Dave Warden - Board of Public Works – Bike lanes added on University Ave and if anyone has any input on this can contact Dave ; The BPW is looking for new members must be City of Ithaca residents. Notices went out to City Water folks regarding lead in pipes and testing can be done if requested and monitoring system is in place. George McGonigal –Common Council – Excused – no report Friends of the IYB – They had a retreat recently and planning large event in September Meeting Adjourned: 7:08 p.m. Next Meeting: May 9, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., Green Room
