There was skating with the Mayor at Cass. Park master plan work continues – getting info from us, getting inventories and collecting info will be back in Spring – finished product at the end of summer. Jason asked about the surveys and results from these. Liz showed Board the 2016 IYB highlights slideshow presentation - The Human Services Coalition luncheon this week and they invited agencies to bring in slideshow showing highlights. Suki and Liz put together a 3-year strategic plan utilizing info from staff. Vision for the IYB is for the Ithaca community and surrounding area to look at us and know what programs we have, have us be a household name and to understand that IYB and Cass are one in the same. We will also continue to provide high quality programs that meet the needs of the community. 2017 priority and goals – changes to structure of the organization – will be presented to Common Council for approval. Mike BA will change title from Recreation Administrator to Rec. Program Coordinator and he will be moving to Cass Park; Jim D’Alterio will be in charge of the all facilities/bldg. in addition to operations at Cass he will take on supervision of the IYB custodian and maintenance persons, as well as be Deputy Director at Cass Park and Suki Tabor will be Deputy Director at IYB. Tito Villa will move up from leader position to Rec. Coordinator; and a Recreation Assistant position. This requires no additional monies to fund these position changes. Yolanda Richardson will be moving from Cass Park over to the IYB and will be working on more of the social media, working with the smaller programs, helping us to get our message out to the community via web, etc. Liz went over the restructured organizational chart, answered questions and gave detailed talk regarding the priorities for 2017. Collaboration is a big focus for 2017 and optimizes the impact we have on each other and the community. There are timelines for goals for each of areas of focus. There has to be a signature event that we could do, that could support all of the IYB and benefit all of our programs, this will be a big focus for 2018. Cass Park facilities work will continue and hope to get this finished, as well as bring more attention to the IYB. Mural on the side of the bldg. was also a suggestion to bring attention, or have art shows in the bldg. Cass Rink Enclosure – cont’d work on this – Mary will have an update soon of how fundraising is going. Enclosing the Rink needs to be done and is a prime spot on the waterfront trail. This rink can then be utilized for so many more things, not only in the winter, but in the spring it could hold expo’s (kayak, etc.). The slide could fail; if it does it will be pulled out. Cass could extend the summer season, if there is a splash pool, and then Cass has the only Olympic size outdoor swimming pool. The tennis courts needs to be redone. It’s not just an ice rink, its home to Cass Park Day Camp, roller derby teams, rabbit shows, SPCA events; it serves all of the community in a variety of ways. Enclosing the rink – The design work is done for enclosing the rink; it’s a nice design, we just need the money to make it happen. Voting on Chair/Co-Chair – Motion by Jesse to keep leadership as is: Eric and Talyse as Co-Chairs – All were in favor. Eric – Outing Shadowing – still in process Board Member info access – The Board would send welcome cards to new staff members; Talyse will bring at the next meeting; a congratulations card to Jim also. The board should also recognize meaningful milestones and accomplishes as well as staff anniversaries, etc. Shared drives where Board members could download or print copies of information. This will be discussed further at next month’s meeting. Jesse Tedora gave a suggestion to have recycle bins/trash bins throughout Cass Park as there currently isn’t any and Liz advised that Cass Park is a carry in and carry out park. Dave Warden was excused – therefore no report from the Board of Public George McGonigal –Common Council – nothing new Friends of the IYB – See above update – fundraising is continuing Tompkins Connect – Jump on Board Event – Talyse will email info regarding this.
