Horizontal grain can be requested. Polishing requires a minimum of 2" height and 1/4" depth or 3" height and 1/8" depth (stud mounts required). Restrictions may apply on letters over 24". All stainless steel letters and logos are shipped without a clear polyurethane coating. Alloy C304 will not tarnish under most conditions. In cases where stainless steel letters and logos will be installed in salt water environments Alloy 316 offers even better corrosion and tarnishing resistance. Using harsh chemicals may cause permanent damage to the materials surface. For areas within 50 miles of the coast, Gemini recom- mends Alloy 316. This conforms to recommendations by numerous metal industry panels. Use of 304 in coastal areas may experience premature failure. Alloy 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to C304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better over- all corrosion resistant properties than C304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. Cor-Ten® – a weather resistant steel created by alloy- ing copper, chromium and nickel. The material forms its own protective layer when exposed to atmospheric elements. Essentially, the top layer corrodes which then protects the steel beneath it. The natural finish does not normally require any form of maintenance such as painting, which makes the material a highly cost effective alternative to other structural steels. POLISHED Price as Listed (#4 finish - Add 15%) Brushed Stainless Steel letters are particularly susceptible to collecting exterior contaminants and airborne pollutants from harsh environments. This is because the brushed stainless steel finish catches and holds residues that can stain the surface of the letters. In many cases, we have seen customers believe that these residues are actually rust. In most non-marine cases, the brushed stainless steel finish simply needs to be cleaned. This can be easily accom- plished because stainless steel letters are shipped without a clear coat—so simply by taking a scotchbrite pad and ordinary Stainless Steel Cleaner (such as Kleen King) letters can be returned to an “as new” condition. In cases where actual oxidation (rust) has occurred—it is because the stainless has been exposed to marine environments or harsh atmospheres such as being near treated chlorine pools or concentrated engine exhaust. In these cases Alloy 316 is recommended for longer life—but may require clear coat protection to further lengthen the lifespan of the stainless steel. Remember—stainless steel is “stain less” not “stain free”. The picture on the top right is of a letter near a fountain that collected some residue that our customer thought was ‘rust’. With just a paper towel and some Kleen King, it was a simple solution to restore the sign to a perfect luster. Materials must be acclimated in an environment of 65-75ºF (18-24ºC) for at least 24 hours prior to beginning the installation. B. Installation areas must be enclosed and weatherproofed before installation commences. Part 2 - Products 2.01 Manufacturers A. Interior surface protection products specified herein and installed on the submittal drawings shall be manufactured by Construction Specialties, Inc. 2.02 Materials A. Engineered PETG: Rigid sheet should be high impact Acrovyn 4000 with nominal .040" (1.02mm) thickness and supplied in 4' x 8' or 10' (1.22m x 2.44m or 3.05m) sheet sizes in standard Suede texture. Quatro, Single Tread, Beadboard (specify nominal 1-5/8" or 2-5/8"), Mesa, Stone Chips, Irish Linen, Pindot, Leather, Pinstripe, Dado and Stipple textures shall be 43" x 90" or 114" (1.09m x 2.29m or 2.90m). Verification of conditions: Examine areas and conditions under which work is to be performed and identify conditions detrimental to proper or timely completion. 1. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.02 Preparation A. Surface preparation: Prior to installation, clean substrate to remove dirt, debris and loose particles. Perform additional preparation procedures as required by manufacturer's instructions. B. Protection: Take all necessary steps to prevent damage to material during installation as required in manufacturer's installation instructions. 3.03 Installation A. Install the work of this section in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations using approved adhesive. B. Temperature at the time of installation must be between 65-75ºF (18-24ºC) and be maintained for at least 48 hours after the installation to allow for proper adhesive set up. C. Relative humidity shall not exceed 80%. D. Do not expose wall covering to direct sunlight during or after installation. This will cause the surface temperature to rise, which in turn will cause bubbles and delamination. 3.04 Cleaning A. General: Immediately upon completion of installation, clean wall covering and accessories in accordance with manufacturer's recommended cleaning method. B. Remove surplus materials, rubbish and debris resulting from installation as work progresses and upon completion of work. 3.05 Protection A. Protect installed materials to prevent damage by other trades. Use materials that may be easily removed without leaving residue or permanent stains.
