HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2018-10-24CITY OF ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES Regular Meeting 3:30 p.m. October 24, 2018 Present: Chair: Kane Commissioners (4) Rogers, Wright, DaGrossa Commissioner Onyejuruwa joined before Executive Session OTHERS PRESENT: Deputy Chief- Monticello Deputy Chief- Nayor Public Information Specialist- Faraday Jonni Campbell EXCUSED: Beem-Miller Common Council Liaison – Kerslick CALL TO ORDER: 3:30 p.m. Jonni Campbell was introduced as a party interested in joining the CPB. She observed the meeting. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approval of the minutes of the September 26, 2018 meeting was deferred to the November meeting. COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC: No one appeared before the Board. REPORT FROM THE COMMON COUNCIL LIAISON: No report from Council. REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT: Deputy Chief Monticello introduced the new Deputy Chief of Police Administration and Records Dennis Nayor. Deputy Chief Nayor gave a brief background of his work experience and informed the Board that he would be their new liaison. The IPD’s proposed budget was detailed. Requests included the addition of 2 more officers. Present detail of how officers are distributed through shifts and future retirements were discussed to illustrate the need for these additional officers. Examples of cities of comparable size/ population and their Police force numbers were given as well. The Board decided to write a statement in support of the addition of two officers being included in the 2019 budget. OLD BUSINESS: 6.1 Filling Vacancies on CPB Public Information Specialist Faraday circulated copy for extending a Social Media reach for new member recruitment for the Community Police Board. She stated that the posts would go public in a week and that she will field any response. NEW BUSINESS: 7.1 New Sexual Harrassment Policy Board members read and reviewed the city’s new Sexual Harassment Policy. EXECUTIVE SESSION: By Commissioner Rogers: Seconded by Commissioner DaGrossa RESOLVED, That the Board enter into Executive Session to discuss ongoing investigations. Carried Unanimously RECONVENE: The Board reconvened into regular session with no formal action taken. The Community Police Board unanimously approved the letter of Resolution for Complaint 2018-3.
